TV Shows Watched: Boots: S1E? (Netflix) with audio description, The Diplomat: S3E2 (NEtflix) with audio description,The Beatles Anthology: S1E2 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Elzabeth: S3E? (Paramount Plus) with audio description
Boots- I’m loving this. I hope Netflix gives it another season. This episode, for anyone wondering where I am, had Ray find out what Cameron did “for him”, and the gang gets to watch Ghostbusters II. One of the recruits exits the show. Nice audio description. They do a lot with Cameron, and his inner thought personified, and the description around that is handled well in what could be confusing.
The Diplomat- Picking up the pieces after that bombshell offer for Hal, our leads try and figure out what their new work/life balance will be moving forward, and what this means for Kate. regardless, Veep was still titled Veep even when she wasn’t the Vice-President anymore, so the title is just a construct.
The Beatles Anthology- It basically just keeps moving through the early years of the success of the Beatles. some full song performances. I barely notice the description. It’s like they are afraid to disrupt the music, which for this project, was probably the right call.
Elzabeth- The Sleepy Hollow episode, and one of those rare episodes where the AD didn’t carry me as far as it usually does. There’s a running gag with Elzabeth having Halloweek, where she wears a bunch of different costumes, and while characters keep reacting to her, we at best get a mention that she’s in a new costume. the cast sometimes makes a direct reference to her costume like “I thought you were from Newsies.” But without knowing how she’s dressed, those all fall apart. I’m not really sure the AD track could have done much more, and this episode would be more of an argument toward how extended audio description could have enriched the experience. This team does solid audio description, but for this episode, it just was asking too much.
