I’m shocked and horrified this morning at the senseless murder of Rob and Michelle Reiner. An unbelievable tragedy.
TV Shows: The Chair Company: S1E5 (HBO MAX) with audio description, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch: S1E5 (Netflix) with audio description, Devil In Disguise: S1E3 (Peacock) with audio description, and Starting Five: S2E? (Netflix) with audio description
The Chair Company- I still don’t love the show, but it has some darkly comedic beats that work for it. They did bring up ADA requirements this episode, though I think the best gag was the joke where the character talked about arriving for a job, and some guy pretending to be his boss who wasn’t. Dave’s description matches the tone of the show.
Splinter Cell: Deathwatch- Sometimes, I forget this is animated. I wish the audio description could feel more engaging somehow, but I don’t have any real problems with it. My biggest problem was not having seen this show in a month and trying to remember what had just happened.
Devil In Disguise- they interview the one who got away, a male prostitute. Sadly, due to the time period, these guys are complete assholes to this poor kid who is realizing just how close he came to being a victim. This show is written and directed better than Monster. the audio description though… I can’t just bash this company for every episode of every show they do. This episode was fine, and they seemed to hit all the necessary beats. Their problem is consistency.
Starting Five- The best part was hearing the player (I forgot his name) comment about going from being a kid who played NBA 2K to being on the cover. It has been around that long, it will be a full circle moment for anyone who simply making it to the NBA wasn’t cool enough. Also, Kevin Durant’s mom is fun, and needs a reality show. The audio description here is fine, as we bounce from player to player, and there’s a bit of game time footage. Perhaps though, like when we are following Kevin, and we get a note that a teammate of his dunks, we could say their name? Just a small thought.
