The Small Screen Diaries: 12/24/25

Merry Christmas. I got you this list of shows. You’re welcome.

TV Shows Watched: Fallout: S2E2 (Amazon) with audio description, All’s Fair: S1E2 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Tracker: S3E4 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, I Love LA: S1E3 (HBO MAX) with audio description, The Diplomat: S3E3 (Netflix) with audio description, Death By Lightning: S1E3 (Netflix) with audio description

Fallout- A show with a lot of potential to stand out, as the fantasy of it all takes over. The Rad Scorpion fight, for example, was really well done. I do have questions. Size relativity. Simply describing things as bigger or larger, like what? Compare it to something. Like, is it a scorpion the size of a cat? A bear? My neighbor Totoro? Pick something. Maximus’s fight was also good, but relied on a height differential of… well, the other guy is taller. A little? A lot? A foot? Make choices. Maximus goes after feral ghouls, which didn’t really get any description as to how we would know they were feral. the one that did the bendy thing though was fun. It handled the exploding heads just fine. The description of the man’s back with wounds was good. So there’s a lot of good here, but it could benefit from size relativity.

All’s Fair- I definitely felt like I was missing some little things, but this is not a smart show, and I kind of picked up on missing points. Like, the girl going out to vape was pretty obvious. Emerald has three kids who might be triplets, and all sound like they are 40. I don’t know if describing them more here is important, like will we ever see them again? The thing about character introductions is that it is so rare to ever get any follow-up description if it is missed. Sometimes, it means a character can be introduced with little to no description for a show that runs ten years. A hundred plus episodes, and all you got was “blonde”. All’s Fair did get a second season, so these might be real problems. This show is now everyone’s favorite hate watch, and the lowest rated new TV show of 2025 on Metacritic.

Tracker- Prety reliable audio description for a very average episode.

I Love LA- A sometimes funny comedy, and I’m trying to figure out where the AD needs to come in. Like, there was a little aside joke about this shirt someone was wearing, but I’m not sure it was described. But, it wasn’t the focus either.

the Diplomat- I like the audio description for this, and I enjoy the show. It does feel like a diet version of The West Wing, and i wonder what this would be if Aaron Sorkin was writing it. Would it be even better? Probably. but the description was fine.

Death By Lightning- I think I heard some of the name swap nonsense others have pointed out. There was one scene where Charles was clearly trying to get into a door, but after the door is slammed shut, it says that Joe was startled. that made no sense. And, I think for the last two episodes, Bradley Whitford’s character was hinted at being someone else. this episode, he seems to be referred to differently. Maybe. I know the door thing though has to be a gap. The beginning of the episode was so weird. Charles is coming from a place where… was he in a sex cult? What even was that?
