Nothing. I accomplished nothing. It was a weird day. I got through about half an episode of The American Revolution, but that was it. I did fit A Christmas Story in, which is on HBO MAX with a lovely TCM style intro… and no audio description? I know the in film narration limits the AD somewhat, but Jesus. this film that used to air in 24 hour marathons on TBS/TNT, is 42 years old, was given an HBO MAX sequel three years ago, doesn’t have audio description? really? Like, really? It’s even a film that has this exaggerated gag where Ralphie envisions himself as blind after having washed his mouth out with soap, in one of those “you’ll be sorry” type moments. It is probably offensive to some, but when I was a kid, I was told all sorts of things would cause me to go blind. What actually did was having 20/20 vision, and no need for eye doctors, and then having glaucoma far before anyone. It wasn’t sitting in front of the TV. But, if you’re going to use blindness as a gag, with the constant fear of “you’ll shoot your eye out”, perhaps… this should be an accessible title after 42 years and 24 hour marathons since 1997. So, by this time next year, whoever owns this, needs to put some audio description on it. I’ve seen it before I lost my vision, so I remember it, but if we are planning on continuing to use it as a pillar of Christmas, everyone should be able to enjoy it, including young kids who have been born blind since 1983. Bah humbug.
