The Small Screen Diaries: 01/03/26

TV Shows Watched: Spartacus: House of Asher: S1E1 (Starz) no audio description, Splinter Cell: Death Watch: S1E? (Netflix) with audio description, Starting Five: S2E5 (Netflix) with audio description, 911: Nashville: S1E5 (Disney plus) with audio description, The Diplomat: S3E4 (Netflix) with audio description

Spartacus- As you would correctly assume, this show is a son of a bitch to watch with no audio description. I also haven’t seen any of Spartacus, but I heard this was a bit of a rewrite, changing something anyway from the previous series. Sort of like a What If? It is violent, and these gladiators love to say cock a lot. Was that a period word? Like, is that painstakingly researched to make sure the dialogue fits the period? Probably not.

Splinter Cell- Really an excellent series I end up reminding myself is animated. Liev Schreiber does an excellent job as Sam,though not binge watching this was a mistake, as I have forgotten so much episode to episode. More than most things I watch, I’d recommend doing this one as fast as possible.

Starting Five- AKA Kevin Durant and some other people. Lovely audio description for the style of show it is. I’m pretty sure I know which narrator this is. I really wish Netflix wouldn’t talk over the credits.

911 Nashville- I’m not really interested anymore, but I haven’t reviewed it yet either, so I decided to push another episode in to keep it fresh. 911 as a franchise needs a new showrunner. I think Ryan Murphy’s current output is showing he needs a break. These mega producers get overextended. Roy’s narration is great though.

The Diplomat- Kate is still trying to find meaningful balance in being the Second Wife, and also still an Ambassador. VSI does some nice description here. I like the note about her body double having messy hair, since Kate comments on it.
