The Small Screen Diaries: 01/05/26

What a difference a year makes. Those who attacked our capitol last year were still marked with the stench of that day, and rightly so. Now, they’re running for office. You might bump into one at a PTA meeting, assuming you still have schools.

TV Shows watched: Man Vs baby: S1E1 (Netflix) with audio description, English Teacher: S2E8 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Little Accidents: S1E1 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, Devil In Disguise: S1E4 (Peacock) with audio description, The Morning Show: S5E8 (Apple TV) with audio description

Man Vs Baby- DVW is doing this track, I believe. It is essentially a sequel to Man Vs Bee. it is very silly, and I hate it. I also love it. But the characters here suck. Like, Trevor gets fired from his job right before Christmas, and Trevor, who technically no longer works at this place, is left to close up? I had an experience like that once. It didn’t work out for the other person. I was the only one in the store, and my DM fired me over the phone, because even though my last DM had approved me managing college and work, my job technically expected me to be available whenever. I refused to drop out mid semester, and he fired me on the phone… on Halloween. We closed early that day. Trevor being left alone to close up after being laid off, and then being saddled with a miracle baby just triggered me. Then he calls his bitch of a boss, and he’s like… there’s this baby here.. and she’s like “Nope. Gotta get to my family.” You work at a school. You run a school. For kids. The guy you just let go is the only person there, with a baby abandoned, that isn’t his? And people let her teach children? The sow is cute, I get Rowan’s brand of humor, but some of these characters need to be smacked. I forgive the social services guy, since Rowan made himself sound like Trevor was hallucinating a baby, but that teacher knew the baby was in that manger. Turn the fucking car around. The AD is excellent, by the way. I also have trouble getting used to hearing Rowan Atkinson speak. It just surprises me.

English Teacher- I will miss this show. It got the axe. this episode had the teachers trying to get a higher score and move up to a five star school. The AD wa actually below average, if I’m being honest. I forgot it was there. It was… just very sparingly, even for a comedy series.

Little Accidents- Diane Kruger will send you into a panic. This show gave me anxiety. I had no idea what this was about, and wow. Now I’m properly stressed. I paid way too much attention to the machinations of this thing, and less to the AD if I’m being honest.

Devil In Disguise- Michael Chernis is doing some solid work here. I couldn’t get through the Monster: Ed Gein thing, but this is a little less sensationalized, and honors the lives Gacy took. The AD is mostly average. It could be improved, but this company has done far worse. But like the scene where Gacy is in the pharmacy, and he’s looking for helpers, there’s no dialogue, and he just stands there for a few seconds, awkwardly, and I think he rapped the counter with his knuckles and left? But none of that made it into the audio description despite it being dialogue free. So… my imagination does the audio description, which is just not ideal for a series based on real events.

The Morning Show- It gets a little silly. I wish I could care about Billy Crudup’s storyline, but his mother just pops up this season, and it seems her only reason to be here is to die. So, I can’t be surprised. Sure, Crudup does a nice job, but the scene between Aniston and Jeremy Irons was fire. Then Crudup goes and just does a ton of blow? OK. Fine. Weird. Whatever. The AD here was solid as usual.
