Fallout- A much better description of the DeathClaw, but it relies upon the conventional size of a doorframe for size relativity. technically, the first time we saw it was out in the open in the last episode, and based on what it does to a car, it feels larger, but still… how large? My imagination is forced to guess between 10-15 feet, enough to tower over the humans, but it could still possibly bend over and get through a door. Maybe. Otherwise, the scene in the store with the “owner” was well written, every detail seemed important and essential in a detail oriented segment.

tomb Raider- Netflix makes some pretty entertaining adult animation shows that feel like live action programs, almost. the voice cast here, mature plot and themes, all create an experience worth following. the audio description is pretty good too, noticing clues that Lara would spot to help her figure out the larger mystery at hand, like the tattoo on the man following her.

Bookish- I was disappointed to find only enhanced dialogue and no AD. It is another quirky mystery with a detective who isn’t really a conventional detective, but.. this is the brand now. here, he uses his power of being extremely well read to drive the cases. When he’s close to a discovery, instead of sending you to google, he’s far likelier to hand you a copy of The Scarlet Pimpernel to read, as it coincides with the current investigation. He gets a new assistant right at the top, and the mystery and format unfolds. I liked patience last year, so Ive been casually dipping in and out of PBS, and while this show isn’t bad, it also didn’t bowl me over. I don’t know if I’d prioritize it without audio description. There’s a lot on my watchlist.

Percy Jackson- Timothy Simons is not great here. I’m exhausted by him already. He’s better in Nobody Wants This. Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson head off on their quest. They are temporarily sidetracked by Allison, who is… basic. Her powers of being basic overwhelm them. Eventually, Luke pops up. the AD is fine. I’m still annoyed the first season was recognized as one of five nominees for excellence in AD. the second season benefits from not needing to introduce too many characters, but Disney’s aversion to letting people know there is an intentionally diverse cast in their descriptions is obnoxious. It creates a divide, between sighted and not, and is a little infantilizing. Plus, for a company whose slogan for years, far before DEI was a thing was “drawing creativity from diversity”, they usually stand on the shoulders and celebrate their casting choices, but it is lost on blind audiences, and it sadly is a choice, and not even directly the fault of any specific writer or company. If you can be overwhelmed, and underwhelmed, you should be able to be whelmed. I’m whelmed by this.

Haunted Hotel- Lovely audio description for this adult animation I don’t really need because I have Ghosts, and I don’t need two of the same thing. However, Dan Harmon is behind this, and I’m kinda here for whatever with him. This episode had an old relative visit, and the ending was cute. I’ll give it that.

Emily In Paris- Thank God. The series isn’t lying anymore. Emily is actually back in Paris, as she and Sylvia try to pick up the shambles of their company, which has lost clients while they were in Rome. I wasn’t crazy about the episode. The audio description tried to capture a lot of the emotional complexities of the interactions toward the end, with all those revelations, shock, surprise, and catty comments. but Lily Collins just could not be bothered. I felt like she slept walked through this episode a bit. Odd.

Nobody Wants this- I do. I want this. Love the show, and I can see that Noah is grappling in a be careful what you wish for situation. Noah’s new temple is perhaps a little too progressive, and he might want a bit more tradition, like a meet in the middle of the two temples. meanwhile, the other half of the episode is drama around Morgan’s engagement. really great audio description, for the format for sure.

Say Something!
