The Small Screen Diaries: 01/21/26

TV Shows Watched: Fallout: S2E6 (Amazon) with audio description, Star Search: S1E1 (Netflix) no audio description, and Runaway: S1E2 (Netflix) with audio description

Fallout- In my opinion, I think we maybe could have done more with the mutant. I don’t know. I feel like there’s some decent description there, but I can’t shake the feeling of being met halfway. It’s the same feeling I’ve had with the first interaction we had with that DeathClaw. I think the AD team leans on hopeful progressive description, meaning that they give us enough for now, but intend on continuing to explore how the mutant looks when we see them again, like they did with the DeathClaw. So, I’ll follow them on that idea. I haven’t been really disappointed by the overall track yet, so I hope we do see the utant again, and its description gets richer.

Star Search- Netflix may give us a lot of AD, but they haven’t figured out live AD, and how to make it available after for people who catch up on their gamble of running a live competition series for live voting. Anthony Anderson hosts, and Sarah Michelle Gellar, Chrissy Teagan, and jelly roll are the judges. It is beaming worldwide apparently, and I’m wondering for a global show, are those the most accessible to an International artist? The problem with watching this without AD, is that it has a magic category, and dance. So, While I enjoyed the young singers, and the boy band/girl band, because of vocals, I was lost the rest of the time. I’ll wait a while to see if they add AD to the second episode, otherwise, it is a bit of a struggle and a time commitment for a two hour episode. And that boy band sucked.

Runaway- this Harlan Cobin adaptation isn’t as weird, bad, or poorly structured as some others. I came in hot. I’ll back off a bit. It slows the pacing down and breathes a bit in the second episode, plus the description was solid. I’m still not at a level to recommend it, but there have been worse Cobin adaptations.

Say Something!
