The Small Screen Diaries: 01/24/2026

Giving absolutely no context, I had a very lovely two hour conversation yesterday with some new voices, and familiar ones I respect a lot, about an upcoming film. I’m excited to be part of a team shepherding this thing through, as disability centric projects are kinda important, certainly here. I got to hear someone speak I’ve only ever known of, but never met, and oddly, I know I’ve reviewed content of theirs, and I certainly was pretty sure I’ve said good and bad things. It was nice to put a name to a voice, and hopefully I can talk more about this in the future. I could now, I assume, but without any upcoming possibility of you seeing it, it feels better to just tease the existence, and reveal it later.

TV Shows Watched: Pluribus: S1E3 (Apple) with audio description, the Beast In Me: S1E4 (Netflix) with audio description, Spartacus: House Of Asher: S1E2 (Starz) no audio description, Squid Game: The Challenge: S2E6 (Netflix) with audio description, and Little Disasters: S1E2 (Paramount Plus) with audio description

Pluribus- Love this show. This would be a critics pick from me. I know I’m watching it slowly, but I’d say I’m savoring it. Rhea Seahorn is terrific, the show is so quirky and unique, and I’m definitely excited for a second season and beyond. Honestly, the audio description is pretty decent. I liked a few little details, like Helen’s grave with an orchid on it. they could have said flower, or not mentioned it at all. The specificity got me. The mention of the doctor’s socks, another little stolen moment.

The Beast In Me- Another excellent show, another excellent track. Matthew Rhys and Clair Danes are exceptional, and the dark twists in this episode make it more fun as certain characters gain knowledge others don’t. I’m picking up what this show is putting down, and I think I know where it is headed.

Spartacus: House Of Asher- I’m gonna have to let some shows go, and while I don’t mind holding Starz to task on the lack of audio description, I’ve never watched any of their other Spartacus programs. this is gonna be a cut for me. Too many shows, and when I fell behind, it is getting a bit hard to ever catch up if I don’t release a few. This one, I shouldn’t be the one to review it. I;’m not a fan of Spartacus. I was of Outlander, which is why I have a RT review for that prequel series, but time to let this go.

Squid Game: The Challenge: Very well described, no idea why there are three more episodes. We’re down to what feels like the next to final episode, and I guess they’re gonna stretch it out? Why? Some brutal cuts as the ending gets nearer.

Little Disasters: I’m not enthused. I’d I’m being a bit choosier in my programming, I think I’ll let this one go too. it is clearly an import, and the built in commercial breaks with no commercials really do kill the momentum. It is funny how many other network shows I watch without ads now, and they never miss a beat. This one feels oddly formatted in chunks. Strange. Maybe an editing fail? either way, I’m gonna kill this show too. Too many shows on my plate I’d rather review. This isn’t terrible, it just isn’t compelling. A similar show, All Her Fault, is way better.

Say Something!
