The Small Screen Diaries: 01/26/26

TV Shows Watched: A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms: S1E2 (HBO MAX) with audio description, Wolf: S1E1 (AMC Plus) no audio description,Runaway: S1E3 (Netflix) with audio description, The Last Frontier: S1E7 (Apple Plus) with audio description, and Secrets Of The Bunny Ranch: S1E1 (Disney Plus) no audio description

Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms- Excellent audio description, and while I enjoy the earnestness of Dunc, and now understand why Egg feels like someone cosplaying as a street urchin, the tone still doesn’t work for me, and is inconsistent. It also clearly is in the world of House Of The Dragon, with Damon name checked. But, it doesn’t feel like it. I wish it had a more serious tone, but still an honorable knight, and the difference wasn’t a tonal hodgepodge, but the decision to center around one character instead of an ensemble.

Wolf- I bet this had AD in the UK. Another oddly edited series where even if you watch without commercials, you really feel those breaks. It’s a thriller, and while parts were engaging, it is a show that needs audio description. It does start to get really good right toward the end, and I kinda want to see the next episode. Maybe.

Runaway- It isn’t a total travesty, but I’m realizing I’m not a Harlan Cobin fan, or his stuff is being poorly adapted. Bring me more Agatha Christie!

The Last Frontier- I’d call this the winner for the day in a landslide. Not only did it have excellent AD like Seven Kigdoms, but man they really break down your door and beat you to death with a plot twist. I was flabbergasted. I’m rarely flabbergasted, but now I must see this finale. I kind of understand why apple didn’t do another season, because My God. If you didn’t finish The Last Frontier, there’s a doozy at the end of Episode 7, heading into the finale.

Secrets Of The Bunny Ranch- I was wondering if I’d ever see this thing on a streaming service. I was going to watch something else on Disney Plus, but this one was right there in the recommendations. I had to jump in. I remember watching Cathouse, and I was probably the only guy who watched it thinking Dennis was cute. My world is being rocked by this show. Apparently he’s a fucking douchebag, or was. This is fascinating stuff, and I remember some of the girls. Air Force Amy. LOL. I hope they’re all doing fine now. It does have a little bit of a sensationalist feel to it, which just keeps it from being impactful. It feels like the kind of thing you’d see on basic cable, but has the gravitas to be a Netflix or HBO docuseries.

Say Something!
