TV Shows Watched: Starfleet Academy: S1E3 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, Bridgerton: S4E1 (Netflix) with audio description, Will Trent: S4E3 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Solar Opposites: S6E4 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Devil In Disguise: S1E8 (Peacock) with audio description, and The Masked Singer: S14E4 (Disney Plus) no audio description
Starfleet Academy- This show is still hot hilarious garbage. Episode 3 is prank wars between Starfleet and War Academies, with Jay-Den offering the deadpan perfect line of there not being anything funny about him. My new theory, is that Hollywood, intrigued by how people watch admittedly trashy reality shows, have turned to making scripted TV that is just as trashy, to see if the formula works. It is the only thing that makes sense. The AD is infinitely better than the show itself. Lightyears.
Bridgerton- Season 3 had some of the best audio description I’ve heard, and Season 4 aims to raise that bar with so many characters having potential storylines. I think the older people in this show dancing around their feelings is adorable, and at the center of the Queen’s fancy this season is the bisexual Bridgerton we forgot existed. Welcome, center stage. they’re dropping this in chunks, so only the first four episodes are out.
Will Trent- Again, so grateful for new audio description. Will investigates the murder of a model, which causes him to cross paths with a casual missed connection from a previous episode. I like her. I hope she sticks around. The description of the gnarly photos was solid, as was the mention of the suspect trying to flee on a kids bike.
Solar Opposites- The wall people almost succeeded. Dave’s description here is like the stuff of legend. It is so symbiotic. he feels like a natural part of the show that doesn’t just describe the show to us, but like the team behind Solar Opposites worked with him to create an experience to elevate it for blind audiences. It’s like audio description here doesn’t feel like an afterthought, but done with consideration.
Devil In Disguise- My least favorite track of the day. Sometimes, it is clear they missed something, but other times you get the monster in Gacy. this narrator, and any team she’s worked with have made worse before. It isn’t good, but it wasn’t collectively abysmal either. The show actually got all eight episodes from me, unlike monster, which I killed after one. Michael Chernis was excellent.
The Masked Singer- Truly, I think she eliminated herself because no one would have ever guessed her. I do not know who that is. I thrive in pop culture, I’ve listened to a bunch of podcasts, and her entire career has eluded me. I knew who Ninja was. No idea who she is. Decent singer though.
