TV Shows Watched: Bridgerton: S4E3 and S4E4 (Netflix) with audio description, Wonder Man: S1E2 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Simon Cowell: the Next Act: S1E3 (Netflix) with audio description, Steal: S1E1 (Amazon) with audio description?, and Boston Blue: S1E? (Paramount Plus) with audio description
Bridgerton- My clueless take. Last season, the audio description made a stir, with influencers encouraging people to turn it on because it made things steamier. i wonder if Netflix had notes on that, because the masturbation sequence felt a little below the extremely high bar Liz constantly sets in her descriptions, yet, later in the 4th episode when two characters finally decide to do it, that was pretty well done, but then again, it was a man who got naked pretty quickly. It made me think. There was a lot of breaks in the first sequence of nothing but heavy breathing, and while I’m not expecting erotica, I’m wondering if there wasn’t more there, but Netflix doesn’t want the AD to become a pop culture phenomenon a second time? I love having debates about how excellent audio description is or can be at such a high level, instead of pointing out basic errors a two year old would have caught. this is elevated description either way. A diamond is still a diamond, even if it’s got less clarity, or a different cut. This is still a diamond AD track.
Wonder Man- I wonder what my recaps would have looked like if Disney had followed through with their screener? Hmmm. Well, I’ll mention that episode two features a nice cameo, and Ben Kingsley’s Trevor is back in another project. Here he makes sense, but it is amazing how many things Trevor has been in despite being utterly pointless. The AD continues to delight.
Simon Cowell’s Next Act- He second guesses himself, and we watch him mourn the loss of Liam Payne. Just for clarification, that happened in October 2024. So, for over a year, Simon was working on trying to make whatever this next act is happen. This premiered in December 2025. I can’t even imagine being on this show, and having to pretend like nothing happened due to NDA’s and Netflix’s ridiculous release schedule for this.
Steal- So this was interesting. A fairly typical robbery gone wrong show. I watched this on my Roku, and the last thing I watched was the Wrecking Crew, which had audio description, as usual, no problem. For some reason, this started without it, and I had to turn it on. Then, halfway through I needed to pause it, and the AD never came back. Ever. It said it was on, but I never heard it again. So very strange. And because I didn’t know this would happen, I don’t remember exactly the last thing that was said, so I don’t know if its a glitch, or the AD track died, or what. i need to watch more, and on a different device. So very strange.
Boston Blue- I’m getting bored of this. I gotta be honest, it’s limping along based o a few cast members I like. Even with Sonequa Martin green, I think I’ll be giving up. I didn’t finish Star Trek Discovery either, and she got me to watch that. the two younger cops, the one from Black-ish and the other one is Wahlberg’s son in the show, were caught in nonsense their family tried to fix. The AD is OK.
