The Small Screen Diaries: 02/06/26

TV Shows Watched: The Traitors: S4E8 (Peacock) with audio description, Wonder Man: S1E7 (Disney Plus) with audio description, DMV: S1E5 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, The Masked Singer: S14E5 (Disney Plus) no audio description, and The Rookie: S8E2 (Disney Plus) with audio description

The Traitors- It is so lovely to have actual competent audio description when their challenge is extremely visual. Basically, they had to recreate photographs as still life and three of the players in the tower had to guess which picture they were mimicking. No spoilers, but the one who gott murdered was a smart play by one of the Traitors, and the one voted out overplayed their hand, and dug their own grave. Talk about from barely being on the radar, to having a near unanimous vote. That’s an epic fail.

Wonder Man- This show is terrific, and it ends explosively. One more episode left, and I’m so curious to see how they wrap it up in just thirty minutes (more like 20 since the show has these epic credits). I thought the AD was great around the aforementioned explosion.

DMV- People being hilariously bad at their job, and then getting a paid suspension. Nice audio description from what I could tell and for the format.

The Masked Singer- I didn’t know who it was, and then I heard the eliminated contestant’s backstory, and I was so happy for them to be there on that stage. Good for you. The wildcard, in my expert opinion, is Jordon Sparks. There’s a mention of her being daddy’s little girl and her dad made sure she knew everything about football. her dad was on the Dallas Cowboys. While she hasn’t performed directly in the halftime show, her proximity to the NFL has had her performing for other Super Bowl events. She’s done a dance off, and she’s done the national anthem. She also famously won American Idol, and winning something was a part of her package. She also competed on Dancing With The Stars. I could see her doing this.

The Rookie- While the show still has some nice beats to it, and the character dynamic is strong because they have kept every long running cast member since killing off one of the original three Rookies. Anyone written off since was new to the show. But the plot lines are a bit much now, and more over the top than before. Sure, they had their events in previous seasons, but not every episode. The first episode had them needing to fight crime in Europe for some reason, and now they have to stop a Presidential assassination. Calm the fuck down. 911 did this, and now its on life support, being propelled forward only by the grace of Angela Bassett.
