The Small Screen Diaries: 02/21/26

If you want to feel insane, just totally insane, because no one thinks about anything anymore, I invite you to celebrate Alan Cumming day. it’s a very special day where Alan Cumming will be on your TV, hosting two different awards ceremonies, at the same time. I won’t tell you how, because the answer is far more boring, but lets just say he’s the host of the Movies For Grown Ups awards which airs at 7PM EST tonight on pBS, and also the BAFTA Awards, which air on E! At 8PM. Don’t question it. the man played Nightcrawler, let that sink in.

TV Shows Watched: From: S3E10 (MGM Plus) with audio description, Talamaska: S1E4 (AMC Plus) no audio description, American Idol: S24E4 (Disney Plus) no audio description, tales of the TMNT: S2E2 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, Name That Tune: S5E13 (Disney Plus) no audio description

From- One of my favorite series ever now. I’m fully caught up, and await Season 4 to consume me. A shocking death and some other characters in the balance. Excellent audio description, and for a horror series with a dab of mystery and science fiction, it’s really important to not leave anything to the imagination. I don’t know why people think that’s a function of audio description, but then again, there are STILL people who believe the earth is flat. Excellent AD. So weird that each season has a different narrator.

Talamaska- interesting show. Needs audio description.

American Idol- FINALLY. Bruh. Literally, I had tried everything. I even have a Roku I can shout at, and “Play American Idol” returned no search results. Even with the Disney Plus app up, nothing. But finally, after checking it, there was episode 4. I started to play it, and it was lagging, very glitchy for some reason, and I was like… great. the file is corrupted. That’s why it has taken so long. Finally, after backing out and going back in, I finally caught up. Damn. Took long enough. Some really lovely talent, and they no longer have Hollywood Week, because they’re staying in Nashville. With Luke and Carrie on the panel, it feels like it was bound to happen. One girl is back from five seasons ago, and I forgot her. Mary Jo? Not memorable, but she sounds solid.

Tales Of The TMNT- An underground fighting ring threatens to consume Raphael just like it did Bebop and Rocksteady. This was a swift cancellation for paramount, as they wanted to focus on stronger brands. To which, I took serious offense. Listen, Paramount, if you don’t want the turtles, sell them. I’m sure anyone else would rather do stuff with them. Supposedly WBD did an internal poll of whether the employees would rather be bought by Netflix or Paramount, and the answer was overwhelmingly Netflix. this would be why. A fun version of the Turtles being killed off for no reason. the AD here is solid too. Damn.

Name That Tune- there’s always that one song, where you’re surprised no one knows it. I also love the Bid A Note, when you’re 100% sure you know it. That Kiss From A Rose clue was super obvious. One of the few shows I don’t miss AD for, since it is so heavily structured to be an auditory experience. Like, if it was a podcast, people would have just as much fun trying to guess the songs.

Say Something!
