The Small Screen Diaries: 03/09/26

Today is Mario Day. Celebrate Nintendo’s iconic character by praying your favorite character has a game with audio description on Nintendo Switch.

TV Shows Watched: American Classic: S1E1 (MGM Plus) with audio description, His And Hers: S1E5 (Netflix) with audio description, All’s Fair: S1E7 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Can you Keep A Secret: S1E2 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, Have I Got News For you: S4E7 (HBO MAX) no audio description, Breaking Bad: S3E10 (Netflix) with audio description

American Classic- kevin Kline, Laura Linney, Jon Tenney, and Len Cariou star in this family dramady about an alcoholic mess of an actor who returns home after finding out his mother passed, only to maybe perhaps find a way through his mess of a life. I have this show clocked from its pilot, and I think I know where this road leads. Kline is excellent. This is worth watching if you already have MGM Plus because you’re anxiously awaiting the new season of From. the AD was fine too, especially toward the end, when it has to sell what Kline’s character is seeing.

His And Hers- We’re headed a bit off the rails here at the end, but I’m still here for a batshit crazy ending that is about to occur. Also, Bernthal shouldn’t still be on this case. Does this town have no other detectives? Seriously? The AD here is fine, and hits the main clues we’re supposed to get.

All’s Fair- I can’t wait to see if Season 2 leans even more into the campy trashy nature of the show. Sarah Paulson is always given some silly stuff to say, and she’s perfection. I don’t hate this show as much, in terms of “hate watching” like I do Starfleet Academy. All’s Fair is trash and knows it. Starfleet is trash masquerading as invention.

Can You Keep A Secret- A charming dark comedy from the UK which continues to somehow be original in this minefield of shows where so many shows feel like something else. This is one of the most unique shows on my watchlist right now. Very funny, and the audio description is also just fine.

Have I got News For you- A lot happened in the last week, and they have to go through broad strokes, and be funny. I’m not sure who either guest was. Like, I heard them introduced, and where they were from, but they’ve had bigger names.

Breaking Bad- The Fly Episode. A bottle episode for Breaking Bad where Walt and Jesse spend the entire episode stuck together, trying to kill a fly, likely because Walt has lost his mind following his conversation with Gus, falling out of what happened to Hank. Walt opens up a bit with Jesse, but still doesn’t tell him the full truth yet. Considering the episode is 95% in one room, the AD makes the most out of it by tracking the fly when seen, and the various ways the duo tries to kill it. Wonderful.

Say Something!
