Tomb Raider- I really liked the batttle sequence, where Lara’s newest hopeful, whose mask gives them the power of Pestilence, fights the villain of the series. There was some really cool description of how his powers worked, and even how he himself transformed while wearing the mask. Plus, the vines shooting around. A cool sequence described well.

Scrubs- Apparently impossible to describe due to all the cutaways. I’m still left cold by the AD. I tried rewatching the original series a while back, which didn’t have audio description, and I remember thinking how many jokes are tough to follow because of the constant dream sequence cutaways, and the AD does try where it can. Like in one segment, JD gets decapitated, and we got that gag, but not every time he drifts away do we get stuff. I feel like this is just going to be another sitcom narration that doesn’t really get us there, but tries to at least give us something, which is honestly true of nearly every sitcom, especially the traditional ones like St Dennis Medical, DMV, and Stumble. But even shows like Shrinking seem to create a format that is harder to describe than others.

Wondla- Ava knows the bad guy is flying to New Attica to attack the remaining humans, so she unites all the friends she’s made along the way to join her in her fight. This has nice description, though for a science fiction adventure series, feels like it can have more, but often just appears to not have the time.

DMV- They go for most of the visual sight gags here, but some are missed. Like Barb has a maze built at the beginning, which they never attempted to describe, instead jumping to the punchline, of Tim Meadows already being on the other side. So, this is how Media Access tries to get the AD in limited spaces. Anything is still better than nothing, unless what you describe is utter nonsense.

Top Chef- Is this female narrator voice I’ve heard on EVERYTHING actually human? I feel like she just inherited Top chef, and wasn’t here before. top chef didn’t even have AD until like Season 20, and while I’ve seen every season, the AD at best can only ever help us keep track of contestants. Much like Age Of Attraction, it has a factor that cannot be translated to a blind audience, and that is how delicious or well plated the food actually looks. You can hear the description, but knowing this show, it really does some excellent photography of the dishes to make you want to eat any of them, even if you know it isn’t your thing. But, a bunch of new contestants fight to stay alive, since this season, now in Charlotte, the first two eliminated contestants will not get a chance at Last Chance Kitchen.

The masked Singer- After a few eliminations this season where I’ve wondered WHO? They did it again. I love how the panel always seems to know every celebrity like they go way back. This was a former soccer player turned sports anchor. I’m sure he has his audience, but I also feel like they’ve had much bigger names in earlier seasons. At some point, the judges have to stop guessing people like tom Brady, Travis Kelsey, and Taylor Swift, realizing these people are never coming. This show will have social media influencers populating here pretty soon.

The Lincoln Lawyer- Freshly renewed for a fifth season, Mickey is fighting a system that is clearly trying to corruptly defeat him. Mickey is trying to stay afloat. Now that VSI and Roy are on this, I’m trying to pay attention to whether or not this actually was a true improvement. As I said with the first one, I’m not sure the last team did a poor job, but I do remember they caught flack for not using AD for some of the Spanish. Otherwise, the ddescription was often detailed, and VSI through Roy seems to be doing the same quality work. I still believe this was a lateral move.

Matlock- SHOCKER! Billy took the severance package. I was so surprised by this revelation, I flipped myself back out of my chair, tumbled through an exterior wall of my house and into the street, where I was hit by a Mack Truck. Currently, I’m in recovery from the incident, and the stunning news that Billy isn’t coming back after his actor was thrown off set after a damming accusation of sexual assault from the actress that plays Sarah. Instead, we get this adorable manchild, Hunter, who is the newest cast member. he has such a specific energy, that he feels like he matches the cast. Also, Julian being roped in now makes things interesting. The AD was good. I wonder if there was some Matlock fan out there that was truly shocked that Billy wasn’t coming back. That actor likely won’t be working for a while.

Say Something!
