The Small Screen Diaries: 03/30/26

If you liked the Harry Potter trailer, just know that HBO is committed to the franchise. Season 2 is already in preproduction, with scripts being written and commissioned. Disney is basically stuck in the same boat with Percy Jackson, as these are kids, and they’ll grow up really fast. So, since they are based on major franchises, HBO and Disney are trying to stay ahead of the game. Percy Jackson Season 3 was already shooting before Season 2 launched.

TV Shows Watched: The count Of Monte Cristo: S1E2 (PBS) with audio description, The Night Agent: S3E4 (Netflix) with audio description, Young Sherlock: S1E1 (Amazon) with audio description, Going Dutch: S2E2 (Disney Plus) no audio description, and Last Week Tonight: Most Recent (HBO MAX) no audio description

The Count Of Monte Cristo- Given the guest appearance by Jeremy Irons, I would have preferred they spend a bit more time in prison with Edmund and his prison buddy, but sadly this part of the book was reduced to one episode. There’s only a slight mention of teaching Edmund the ways of aristocracy. I would have loved to see more of the lessons, something they could have accomplished by taking more time with this part. The audio description is really good though, thanks to Media Access Group.

The Night Agent- Peter has to deal with his new partner, Adam, while also helping his reporter get to this super exclusive resort so she can find out the truth. Solid audio description, though after the car crashes, it seemed like Peter was inert, and Isabella was reacting to it, and then suddenly he’s smashing out windows. I feel like there was something missing, to acknowledge he woke up. I actually worried the villain in that sequence was there, but no, it was just Peter.

Young Sherlock- I laughed when they referred to Sherlock’s room as his “digs” in the audio description. This is quite good, for a character that can’t stop being adapted. It is produced by Guy Ritchie, so it has the feel of his film franchise with Robert Downey jr, just much younger, and set at a university. At some point though, it will be exhausting if every investigation is as a result of Sherlock initially being blamed for the crime. it’s fine for the first mystery, but the episode then ends with him being blamed yet again, and I’m worried there’s a pattern here.Holmes and Moriarty working together make for fun strange bedfellows.

Going Dutch- Denis Leary’s show is still fun, even though I’ve basically forgotten to watch it. Wouldn’t it be nice if FOX ported their AD to Hulu?

Last Week Tonight- He’s taking a break for a few weeks, off the next two Sundays. I expected Easter, but he’s also off the following Sunday. This episode did have some fun barbs at the top, before spending the bulk of the episode exploring Hungary.

Say Something!
