Happy Easter! It’s weird how I think of holidays more on the mass consumption, marketed version, than the religious origin. So regardless of your beliefs, I’m basically wishing that a giant rabbit gave you a basket of candy. My word association to Easter is Bunny. I’m a hundred times more likely to watch hop today than The Passion Of The Christ.
Also, this is a big week for TV. The final seasons of both The Boys (Amazon) and Hacks (HBO MAX) premiere, along with the new Handmaid’s Tale spinoff The Testaments (Hulu) which takes Ann Dowd’s Aunt Lydia and gives her a new crop of young women (including One Battle breakout Chase infinity). Aside from that, Elizabeth Banks and Matthew Macfadyen have a new show on Peacock, The Miniature Wife, and Dan levy has a new show on Netflix called Big Mistakes. There’s also a new Star Wars series on Disney Plus, Maul: Shadowlord, which is a new animated entry taking place after The Clone Wars. And if that STILL isn’t enough for you, the Malcolm In The Middle revival launches on Hulu, and Netflix is bringing back their Temptation Island for a second season. Truly. A lot of stuff. In terms of film, the big new movie is Outcome, starring Keanu Reeves, and directed by Jonah Hill.
TV Shows Watched: The Abandons: S1E? (Netflix) with audio description, For All Mankind: S5E1 (Apple) with audio description, High Potential: S2E13 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Top Chef: S24E4 (Peacock) with audio description, America’s Culinary Cup: S1E2 (Paramount) with audio description, Love Story: S1E2 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Marshals: S1E2 (Paramount) with audio description, Abbott Elementary: S5E13 (Disney plus) with audio description
The Abandons- I realized it is an ironic name considering Kurt Sutter abandoned the project. It’s confusing, because it feels like a nearly fully formed idea, but one that just wasn’t executed well. I think, while Sutter nailed it with Sons Of Anarchy, his vision for this was probably the problem. The audio description is great though, and Gillian Anderson can perform in anything.
For All Mankind- One of my favorite shows is a bit long in the tooth. It is funny to see the revisionist history at play, and now we are on Mars, but our world is divided as to whether that is a good thing. We jumped ahead a teenager amount of years, so the very few remaining original cast members, I just don’t know how they make Season 6.So, hopefully you picked up some new favorites along the way. Some new cast is introduced in the form of teenagers, and the colony on Mars has expanded quite a bit. Love the show, love the audio description.
Will Trent- Will gets into the mind of a killer, perhaps too much. It will make you reconsider having your water delivered, if you do.
Top Chef- The guest judge is last season’s winner, and another chef is going to bite the dust. Diffuse is doing the description here, and these food shows are hard to master, since you also have to make the food part of the experience.
America’s Culinary Cup- Padma’s competition has the same problem. Make the food centric in the audio description. It can’t really do that, and I’m not sure what can. Instead of dropping another 4 players, they cut just one after a meat challenge, where one chef did not meet the challenge.
Love Story-Daryl Hannah has been outspoken of her hate for her portrayal on the show, calling it false. If you don’t think the show takes liberties, look at the hot ass mess of an ending, where Jackie calls John and then (presumably) dies. I’m sure that’s exactly what happened. Perfect as is, change nothing. Ryan Murphy is a shadow of the director he used to be.
Marshals- The Yellowstone spinoff is still building its Case. I’ve got puns today. excellent audio description.
Abbott elementary- Always lackluster audio description, the teachers debate giving a kid a Valentines to protect his feelings, while Ava confronts her feelings for her man, and Janeane confronts feelings about her apartment.
