Pluribus- Carol, clearly struggling with loneliness, welcomes Zosha back into her life, trying to get her to identify more as an I than a We, and seeing how the aliens have crafted the world around them. They sleep together in stadiums to preserve energy, but also rebuilt an entire diner just to please Carol. As she makes a big leap forward, she also reminds herself these are aliens comfortable with eating people. When her South American friend arrives, he’ll be in for a surprise. Love this show, and I’m happy Apple is sticking with it.
Invincible- Mark and eve grow closer, and have this little security firm they run, but Eve’s powers are starting to glitch and she doesn’t know why. Oliver wants to be a moody teen, and their mom might move her boyfriend in. Meanwhile, the Guardians reassemble, despite reservations, and are immediately dispatched to help save the world. Excellent audio description.
Detective Hole- Joel Kinnaman is apparently Swedish/American, and is fully bilingual. I was wondering how this track would work out, since Joel is very capable of speaking English (he also stars in for All Mankind), and here he does a lot in English. So the dub cast floats in and out, making this a hybrid show, as they do opt for Joel’s real voice as Tom, and Detective Hole also speaks English a lot. They don’t just dub the whole damn thing. However, the AD track is TTS, showing you where Netflix drew the line, but written well by DVW, who even credited a writer for this. Interestingly, the big draw here, Kinnaman, is not the lead, so I wonder what the long term prospect is for this series.
School spirits- Maddie is still trying to save her school, with the help of her living friends, while the ghosts deal with their own issues. Again, special guest Jennifer Tilly pops up. recently renewed for a fourth season.
Simon Cowell’s Next Act- The big finish, as Simon stresses over his big final choice, picking the band members. Once he has them, they have to record demos and get a label deal. So, I know you’ve been wondering where that chart topping band December 10th came from, and this is that. Just kidding. they haven’t charted in the US, and they reached 68th on the charts in the UK with their debut single Run My Way. Simon Cowell’s next Next Act is going to be retirement.
The last Thing He told Me- Hannah and bailey find themselves back with a familiar semi-friendly face who is still looking into what happened at the beginning of the season, and this leads to an explosive cliffhanger ending for Owen’s fate.
Elzabeth- Sometimes, she gets involved in a case, which seems like a bridge too far. I’ve felt that a few times this season, where the logical leaps she makes, aren’t really logical. In order for this episode to work, she has to believe that a guy can feel that his transplanted heart came from a murder, and then she relentlessly pursues it, even though it was masterfully set up. even when the killer is known to have had a transplant, he already had one done on the books, so there’d be no reason to believe he needed or went through a second transplant.Love her, love the show, but lets realign, shall we? season 4- she needs her old partner, she needs better cases, and she needs a boyfriend who isn’t clearly lying his ass off even if it is for good reasons. Solid audio description as well, though I miss when we don’t get descriptions of Elzabeth’s wacky outfits.
Breaking Bad- “Run.” What an ending. It’s odd to see Jesse rise to the center of morality here, drawing the line somewhere when everyone else around him seems unwilling to do so. Ultimately, we see Walt sees Jesse was right, and helps him in a surprising moment. This likely worked better when it happened, and no one knew if this would be the end of Jesse or not. Excellent audio description. Some nice detail, from the mention of the shoes at the crime scene, to the handling of blowjobs and handjobs in the same episode.
