The Small Screen Diaries: 04/09/26

TV Shows Watched: The Boys: S5E2 (Amazon) with audio description, The Testaments: S1E2 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Dynasty: The Murdocks: S1E2 (Netflix) with audio description, Monarch: S2E4 (Apple) with audio description, Sunny Nights: S1E1 (Disney Plus) with audio description

The Boys- there was a scene where we get “Huey and the gang”, followed by a decent bit of silence before dialogue. I wonder if we couldn’t have listed the six members individually? Was the timing crunch really that tight? Otherwise, I love the Boys, and I loved this episode. Each one so far has ended with a cliffhanger.

The Testaments- Agnes celebrates the bringing down of the curtains, and we get to see through her the weird traditions this society has adapted to in order to get where it is. Daisy is still not letting the bastards get her down, while pretending to everyone that the bastards have in fact gotten her down. We learn a bit more about what Becca is thinking as well. Some solid audio description. The actress playing Daisy reminds me a lot of Bella Ramsey with her mannerisms.

Dynasty: The Murdocks- So what I love about this AD is the repeated reminders of who is talking, and why they should be allowed to. I don’t think they have room for everyone, but they make a very valiant effort for us to know who is speaking.Roy Samuelson narrates from VSI.

Monarch- Well, the kraken is out there now.I think that is what it is, as the boat attack largely suggests, in one of the cooler action sequences in the show so far. And as quickly as one of the squad leaves, she returns after running into someone who reminds her that she’s a hero, and what she does makes a difference. There are some crazy people out there thinking they can live amongst the titans successfully.

Sunny Nights- A new Aussie import starring Will forte, who hops around countries a lot. he also starred in Bodkin, as the only American there, and is now one of two. The show has pacing issues, and should run closer to a half hour than a full hour. I started to look for an exit before the episode was over, not because it sucks, but because it drags. The AD is Australian by some company called Sub Station?

  1. You would’ve seen posts from Alison Myers in the AD Discussion Group on Facebook. She’s the head of AD for The SubStation, which is an Aussie company doing AD which has been around a while.

Say Something!
