TV Shows Watched: The Testaments: S1E3 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Strip Law: S1E4 (Netflix) with audio description, The Burbs: S1E5 (Peacock) with audio description, Shifting Gears: S2E13 (Disney Plus) with audio description, The Greatest Average American: S1E5 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Landman: S2E9 (Paramount Plus) with audio description

The Testaments- We learn more about Daisy’s past (she’s not Nicole), and about half of the story of how she came to be at the facility. The girls take a field trip to the home of a rather recent married girl to see what it is like to run a household and be a Commander’s wife.3Play Media has done some nice work so far on the audio description.

Strip Law- the lawyers end up being sentenced to coaching kids basketball teams, but really bad one full of misfits and outcasts, as the trope goes. The AD here was cute, especially when it is trying to describe what horse girl is bringing to the basketball court. I also enjoyed the side plot with Stephen Root’s character. That was fun, showing how a machine can keep you in front of it.

The Burbs- It definitely varies from the film, but it really soars thanks to a strong supporting ensemble, including Marc Probst (What We Do In The Shadows) and Paula Pell (Girls5Eva). Both were formerly standouts in fan favorite shows, and standout here. I’m not enthused or encouraged by the audio description, which certainly leaves gaps on the table, and moments where you feel like something is missing, or depth could have been added.

Shifting Gears- Thank God for the return of Jenna Elfman. Will it stick for Season 3? And, meanwhile, another pair of characters seem poised to blow up their lives. I don’t need those characters together, so perhaps poll your audience on how invested they are in the will they/won’t they have it all.

The Greatest Average American- A fun new game show. I’ve enjoyed this, and Nate’s energy. I love how poorly he always does on the section designed for his skills. Always guess low. How many states can he identify? I thought I was guessing low at 17, but he got 11. Granted, he had 90 seconds, but still.

Landman- Media Access does some nice audio description, and I noted how they described the final scene, making sure we took note of the cameras. cami will definitely come to regret her decision, since this is a Taylor Sheridan show, and nearly every woman needs their man to rescue them at some point. Even Beth Dutton on Yellowstone had her moments, and she would set the world on fire if allowed. Angela spent the episode trying to improve her daughter’s college experience by making fun of nerds, and having her daughter hang out at a hotel with the rest of the cheer squad based on a loose interpretation of college rules. Cheyenne and TL remain platonic, but also, flirtatious. Just because they say they aren’t going there doesn’t mean Cheyenne won’t be upped to regular for Season 3, and made TL’s girlfriend.

Say Something!
