Coming This week: Euphoria (HBO), Beef (Netflix), and Million Dollar Secret (Netflix) all return for a second season while Margo’s Got Money Troubles (Apple), American Gladiators (Amazon), and The Audacity (AMC Plus) drop as new titles with audio description. In case that last bit confuses you, the stand alone AMC Plus is flirting with audio description now, having set up their most recent content. currently, from what I can see, there are two films (The plague and 100 Nights Of Hero) and four series (The Audacity, Dark Winds, Gangs of London, and The Walking Dead: Dead city). The last three all have multiple seasons, and I have not checked to see if the entire show is audio described or if the most recent season is, however, all three have existing audio description for their past seasons. Then again, they haven’t rolled out audio description for other series that have it, nor have they jumped into films I know have audio description and aren’t even that old (Honey Bunch, Good Boy, The Baltimorons). Who knows how fast the rollout is.
TV Shows Watched: Something very Bad Is Going To Happen: S1E5 (Netflix) with audio description, Shrinking: S3E7 (Apple) with audio description, Paradise: S2E3 (Disney Plus) with audio description, The Madison: S1E1 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, The Lincoln Lawyer: S4E4 (Netflix) with audio description
Something very Bad Is Going To Happen- nothing happens. Shockingly, Rachel doubles down on thinking Nicky is her soulmate, when everything in the previous episode should have sent her running. Jules spends the episode trying to prove Rachel wrong. Nothing violent, gory, or scary happened. Very tame. Rachel spends most of the episode telling guests at her wedding reception the story of how she and Nicky met. the AD was a walk in the park compared to previous episodes.
Shrinking- Jimmy is in his feelings about his daughter going to college, and it also being the birthday of his deceased wife. Meanwhile, guest stars abound as Michael J Fox and Brett Goldstein make return appearances alongside newcomer Candice Bergen. The episode ends on a devastating note I basically predicted would happen when I predicted a certain character was going to rip my heart out this season. Gabby is going to have to figure some stuff out.
Paradise-Episode 1 focused on Shailene Woodley’s new cast addition, the second on what happened with Xavier after he flew away, and the third focuses back on what is happening in the little community, and the surprising recovery of Sam. There’s a massive set up and betrayal at the end of the episode that is a banger of a cliffhanger. Loved this episode and the audio description.
The Madison- Media Access continues to provide the Taylor Sheridan Cinematic Universe with high quality audio description as Michelle Pfieffer plays a wealthy New Yorker whose life is upended when tragedy strikes, and she heads out to the middle of nowhere to reconnect with what she’s lost, bringing her family along. Aside from the fact that one of her daughters is insufferable, this show is heartwarming at times. it has a bit of an unrealistic tone, and Taylor’s idea of city folk is skewed (the grandkids don’t even know what a snake looks like), but it still has charm. Patrick J Adams (Suits) has a thankless role as the son-in-law, and Kurt Russell and Matthew Fox signed on to be in a lot of flashbacks.
The Lincoln Lawyer- Mickey finds the house where Sam lived, but nothing really stands out except some information on getting a commercial drivers license, which leads him down that rabbit hole. Meanwhile, shockingly, the wallet is never found, and the Feds might be interested in the case. Some really solid audio description here too.
