Going In Blind: Shuffle

Disclaimer: I’m a blind film critic. I usually watch films with audio description, but I’m unaware if Shuffle has any existing audio description. Living in Florida, it just really is a realm of possibilities. We truly do like to break new ground, and redefine what is is to be winning in this modern age. We truly are masters of creation. Why do you think the President lives in Florida? think about it. If you were to hear that a man was arrested after getting into a bare knuckle fight with a police officer in a wal-Mart parking lot, that could … Continue reading Going In Blind: Shuffle

The Small Screen Diaries- 01/15/26

It’s a pithy amount. What can I say? Work. TV Shows Watched: Boots: S1E? (Netflix) with audio description, Bat Fam: S1E3 (Amazon) with audio description Boots- This is a really solid show. I’m sad netflix doesn’t have the flexibility to let shows thrive over word of mouth. This was definitely in their Top 10 for a while. It hit the top 10 in its second week, and from what I can find has just shy of 10 million viewers. The scary thing is that if Netflix was willing to axe Boots with those numbers, the second season of A Man On … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 01/15/26

Going In Blind: Night Patrol

Disclaimer: I’m a blind film critic. I did not have access to available audio description for this title. While it isn’t a factor in my actual grade, one has to wonder if right now, cops behaving badly is a film that will rake in the audience. In the midst of what is at the very least the tragic and unnecessary loss of life of 37 year old Renee Gold, and at best a critical failure of our system, a strong representation of denial of Vivian rights, and a textbook example of excessive force that lead to the death of a mother … Continue reading Going In Blind: Night Patrol

TV Shows Watched: Fallout: S2E5 (Amazon) with audio description, Tomb Raider: S2E3 (Netflix) with audio description, Book-ish: S1E1 (PBS) no audio description, Percy Jackson: S2E3 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Haunted Hotel: S1E9 (Netflix) with audio description, Emily In Paris: S5E5 (Netflix) with audio description, Nobody Wants this: S2E7 (Netflix) with audio description Fallout- A much better description of the DeathClaw, but it relies upon the conventional size of a doorframe for size relativity. technically, the first time we saw it was out in the open in the last episode, and based on what it does to a car, it … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 01/14/26

Going In Blind: Sheepdog

Disclaimer: I’m a blind film critic. to my knowledge, there is no audio description for this title, though I’d be happy to hear one. As a member of Film Independent, I get emails about various projects all the time, especially during awards season. I must have gotten at least four Sheepdog emails, and it was an effective marketing tool, because they made it seem like this little indie that could was the undiscovered gem of the year. As with most indies, I’ve come to expect that no audio description exists, although I’ve recently had two different titles where someone involved … Continue reading Going In Blind: Sheepdog

The Small Screen Diaries- 01/13/26

I hope you enjoyed the replacement for the diary yesterday, as I just couldn’t find the time to watch anything on TV. If you ignored it, it is stealthily my best of 2025 in film lists, with only audio described titles listed. I did squeeze in some TV on Tuesday. TV Shows Watched: Ripple: S1E2 (Netflix) with audio description, Down Cemetary Road: S1E3 (Apple Plus) with audio description, Robin Hood: S1E2 (MGM Plus) with audio description, Best Medicine: S1E1 (Disney plus) no audio description, and The Daily Show: Monday (Paramount Plus) no audio description Ripple- I’m trying to circulate shows … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 01/13/26

The Small Screen Diary substitute: 01/12/26

Welcome. I didn’t want to drop off the face of the planet yesterday, but I straight up did not have time. I also work at a school, and yesterday was the first day, and my God. plus, we have a musical that auditioned, which consumed my time. Even my free time was spent absorbing that show to be better prepared for the audition. Now, those of you who read me or these things regularly likely know I also have a YouTube (YouTube.com/macthemovieguy), and not everything that I post there makes it here, and vice versa. Quite frankly, I just do … Continue reading The Small Screen Diary substitute: 01/12/26

TV Shows Watched: Mr Scorsese: S1E5 (Apple) with audio description, High Potential: S2E8 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Simon Cowell: The Next Act: S1E2 (Netflix) with audio description, Murdoch: Death In The Family (Disney Plus) with audio description, Has Been Hotel: S2E3 (Amazon) with audio description Mr Scorsese- finishing out the last 25 years of his career, from Gangs Of New York to Killers Of … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 01/11/26

A Private Life

Disclaimer: I’m a blind film critic. This film does have audio description, despite not being in the English language. *checks notes* Let’s revisit this. This French language film has audio description, despite not being selected by the country of origin as its official Oscar selection. Game, Set, Match. Yeah, they don’t know it, but this has gotten a lot of International Feature votes from me along the way. I might be alone, but I’m trying to spread the good word. In a sea of world cinema that is gate kept on an extreme level, Sony Pictures Classics provided audio description … Continue reading A Private Life

Going In Blind: World Breaker

Disclaimer: I’m a blind film critic, and I’m unaware of this film having an audio description track. It has been screening way ahead of its release, and my screener was not accessible. There’s a story in here. Granted, it is cloaked deep within the confines of a science fiction creature feature, but the story within is what I latched on to. World Breaker is set in a dystopian future where monsters crawl out of the ground and attack the human population. Of course, we fight back, but it seems to be a losing battle. And to make matters worse, it … Continue reading Going In Blind: World Breaker

The Small Screen Diaries- 01/10/26

Looking at the week ahead, notably Twinless hits Hulu on friday, the same day Black Phone 2 hits Peacock. This week marks the return of the probably unnecessary second season of Hijack, and the premiere of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Tonight, venerable PBS dramas miss Scarlett and All creatures Great and Small return, as does HBO’s Industry. Netflix closes The upshaws on Thursday. What are you excited for? TV Shows Watched: The Traitors: S4E2 and S4E3 (Peacock) with audio description, Runaway: S1E1 (Netflix), Squid game: The Challenge: S2E4 (Netflix) with audio description, and loot: S3E9 (Apple) with audio description The … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 01/10/26

Going In Blind: It Was just An Accident

Disclaimer: I’m a blind film critic. I normally watch films with audio description. Neon chose to not produce an English Audio Description track for this film. This one is tough. i sit in the comfort of a living room, writing a review of a film. I don’t know what it is like to be put in an extreme circumstance where simply making art brands me a criminal, but director Jafar Panahi does. he’s already facing a year in prison in Iran should he return to the country. His film started its journey at Cannes, where it won the Palme d’or prize, … Continue reading Going In Blind: It Was just An Accident

People we meet on vacation

People We Meet On Vacation Disclaimer: I’m a blind film critic, and I typically watch films that also have an audio description track. This film has audio description by International Digital Center, written by Steven Christopher, and narrated by Kimberly Chattergy. It is tough to be first out of the gate at Netflix. There’s already the Netflix stigma some unfairly put on Netflix films, but January is not the peak time for great movies. It has become a month with 1-3 surprises, and a few hits have truly been born as a result. People We Meet On Vacation is a … Continue reading People we meet on vacation

I lost a friend yesterday. Janeen was someone I knew before my vision loss through our work at our local fringe Festival. She was a lot of fun to work with. Sometimes frustrating, but she had this child-like voice that I think disarmed people. But, it amplified her kindness and humor, and made it a lot funnierr when she had a biting commentary. We both went through our vision loss journeys at nearly exactly the same time, though hers had a much more serious medical condition attached. While I took baby steps, and often still feel like I’m trying to … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 01/109/26

Going In Blind: Sleepwalker

Disclaimer: I’m a blind film critic. Typically I watch films with audio description, though this film has no known audio description. I barely move when I sleep. I’m not in danger of becoming a sleepwalker. After this film, I’m glad of that, and sympathetic to anyone who is. I’ve heard of sleep paralysis too, and that sounds crazy. For me, my dreams are mostly fun, and I can see in them. The problem with that is, it keeps bringing in people it remembers from way back when, so someone I haven’t seen in 30 years since we were kids pops … Continue reading Going In Blind: Sleepwalker
