The Small Screen Diaries- 02/21/25

Sorry to report, but MAX has dropped Elevation without audio description. Unlike a few previous films where I couldn’t confirm the existence of an audio description track, I’m 100% sure this film has one, and MAX just didn’t care enough to procure it. Decisions like this at a time when it seems like companies can’t run fast enough from disabled individuals, and there are multiple current lawsuits pending to strip us of protections, and argue that the government and private companies have the constitutional right to discriminate against us, every little thing like this is amplified a thousand times over. … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/21/25

Going In Blind (Playing Catch up): Soundtrack To A Coup d’etat, The Dead Don’t Hurt, I Am Ready Warden

I Am Ready Warden- This Oscar nominated Documentary Short is a sobering look at a man condemned to death, who has accepted his fate as well as anyone can, and provides context and ruminations on how he got to death row before his execution. In a state like Texas, where even Richard Linklater explored the rate of executions, I Am ready Warden doesn’t argue the convicted is innocent, just that a split second mistake forever changed this man’s life. Last year we explored the prison complex system through the Netflix documentary Daughters, as well as A24’s Sing Sing. These films … Continue reading Going In Blind (Playing Catch up): Soundtrack To A Coup d’etat, The Dead Don’t Hurt, I Am Ready Warden

Going In Blind (Playing Catch Up)- Unsung Hero, The Silent Hour, The Terminal

Unsung Hero- Please continue to excuse my tardiness as I continue to catch up on the onslaught of films I saw in November/December/Early January. It has been almost three months since I first watched this faith based biopic about Christian musicians. I remember thinking the film was fine, maybe a bit melodramatic, but whenever faith based films have a budget, and competent people making them, they tend to be better on average than the ones that are made guerrilla style with actors of unknown talent, and directors who have never touched a camera before. Unsung Hero tells a story about … Continue reading Going In Blind (Playing Catch Up)- Unsung Hero, The Silent Hour, The Terminal

The Small Screen Diaries: 02/20/25

The big news yesterday was in the Bond world where a deal was inked for Amazon/MGM to have greater control over the future of the franchise, which led to Bezos asking the world who should be the next James Bond. 10 years ago, I would have answered Idris Elba. Elba is now 52, only 4 years younger than Daniel Craig. In fact, since No Time To Die was released 4 years ago, Craig would have been 52. I know Tom Cruise is still making Mission Impossible films, but he’s also the only film version of Ethan Hunt. If you are … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 02/20/25

Going In blind (Playing Catch Up): Megalopolis, Austin Powers, My Name Is Alfred Hitchcock

Megalopolis- First. before I say anything about the film, i want to say that this film has really good audio description. the description treats Megalopolis like it isn’t an insane fever dream, and avoids pointing out all of the absurdist things Francis Ford Coppola does. It must have been hard to describe this without acknowledging all the hilarity, but you did it. Bravo. I also kinda want some rogue AD providers to go through a movie like this and create an alternate track that does let us know what’s going on, but also points out when things look ridiculous. What … Continue reading Going In blind (Playing Catch Up): Megalopolis, Austin Powers, My Name Is Alfred Hitchcock

I also was going to watch SNL, but the audio description hasn’t made it there. I just listened to Paul Simon and Sabrina Carpenter, and then backed out for a later date when it does have audio description. Best Episode: Ghosts (Paramount Plus)- I should have paid more attention … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/19/25

Going In Blind (Playing catch Up)-Gladiator 2, the Last Stop In Yuma County, Greedy people

greedy People- I watched this dull crime caper back in November, and my initial reaction then was “what has happened to Joseph Gordon Levitt’s career?”. I barely remember this film. I remember a couple of actors being in it, but it is so incredibly mediocre that it has no redeemable qualities to stick with you, nor is it so bad it leaves you with that feeling of having survived something. It is just a dull film. And it is the second one top lined by Joseph Gordon levitt, because even though I did a full review for Killer Heat much … Continue reading Going In Blind (Playing catch Up)-Gladiator 2, the Last Stop In Yuma County, Greedy people

Without Arrows

Without Arrows (2025)- Familial Connections Anchor This Indigenous Documentary releasing on DVD and on demand today, Without Arrows is the second documentary made by an indigenous director with a focus on the indigenous people and culture. Specifically, this takes a look at the family unit, exploring relationships and dynamics over a period of time. It is always interesting to see directors essentially turn the lenses on themselves, allowing either them or their family and friends to be the center piece of the documentary. Already in 2025, I reviewed Time Passages, which is a filmmaker putting his family dynamics on screen … Continue reading Without Arrows

We’re treated to a mostly brand new ensemble, … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/17/25

Going In Blind: Captain America: Brave new World

I’ll probably have to come back around to this. I’m slowly trying to force myself to go out to theatres a bit more, and last year I saw 4 films in theatres, which was up from the previous year. So, I’m shooting for at least 5, and this was my first trip. The movie was far too loud in some parts and the bluetooth failed me in others. So to grade the audio description would be unfair. last year, I mentioned this with the four theatrical trips I made (Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes, inside Out 2, Deadpool … Continue reading Going In Blind: Captain America: Brave new World

the Small Screen diaries- 02/16/25

I didn’t get around to too much TV, or a Quality Check, because I ventured to see Captain America: Brave New World, which took up more of my day. More on that later. Trinity

Trinity (2025)- Impossible To Not Be Shocked And Moved By This Documentary A new documentary is coming to video on demand services on Tuesday, and I got a sneak peek. Trinity is another slap you in the face account of how we continued random atrocities even in the modern age. It jumps off on the assumption that you believed the story that the area we tested the atomic bomb in was uninhabited. Well, as one might assume, we fucked that one up. Of course, there were considerations and variables about the lasting effect of radiation, and how far the wind … Continue reading Trinity

Going In blind (Playing Catch Up)-Troy, Nosferatu, Pooh, The Mousetrap

Still playing catch up. I’m basically using my YouTube feed to help move me quicker to a realm in which I actually remember the audio description for a movie. Nosferatu- Originally, universal gave me this without audio description. Since this movie drops on peacock on Thursday, I do fully intend on coming back around to that when i can catch up. For now, consider this a review pending, but I loved this movie enough even without audio description to say… this film is my favorite score of 2024. Nosferatu (1922)- the original. The OG. The classic film I should have … Continue reading Going In blind (Playing Catch Up)-Troy, Nosferatu, Pooh, The Mousetrap

The Small Screen Diaries- 02/15/25

Next week, get your remotes ready. Tonight (Sunday, 2/16) is the SNL Anniversary bash on NBC with a ton of special guests. I’m sure it will port to Peacock later. Returning shows that I know have audio description include Tracker (CBS/Paramount Plus), reacher (Amazon), Surface (Apple Plus), and the big return of the Emmy winning The White Lotus (HBO/MAX). Disney Plus also has a new original Pixar series Win or Lose, and Netflix is launching the limited series Zero Day. In terms of movies, Peacock is dropping Nosferatu on Thursday, and MAX has Elevation (which I hope they use the … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/15/25
