An Open Letter To ViTac

I learned how to properly spell this companies name. that’s where I’m at. If I told you that if someone were to ask me which company provides consistently the worst audio description, and the answer was ViTac, does that give you pause? Do you actually care about the quality of audio description you produce? I’ve seen you drag some ABC shows into the mud of mediocrity, but nothing you do is quite as functionally awful as The Trators. While your writer might occasionally get some decent description in from time to time, it is so bad I know other people … Continue reading An Open Letter To ViTac

Going In Blind: Moana, Moana 2

I decided to double feature this spunky way finder and her various trips into the big blue world. these movies are not created equal. sequels are hard, especially when you are making one for Disney that is more content with pushing out brand awareness than a movie that feels like the organic sequel to Moana. the first film came out a year before my vision loss, and so when I jumped back in, it was a world i was familiar with. I knew what Moana looked like. I knew the songs. i remembered her journey. I knew that fucking crab was … Continue reading Going In Blind: Moana, Moana 2

TV Shows Watched: The Recruit: S2E6 (Netflix) with audio description, severance: S2E4 (Apple Plus) with audio description, Celebrity Bear Hunt: S1E2 (Netflix) with audio description, School Spirits: S2E2 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, Shifting Gears: S1E5 (Hulu) with audio description, SNL: Chalamet (Peacock) no audio description yet. Best Episode: Severance- Granted, the competition for Severance every Friday is pretty easy to beat. Severance is just on another level. but this weird retreat, which followed that excellent cliffhanger in the third episode, which then found another interesting way to end an episode, clearly was the best thing I saw. Runner Up: … Continue reading The small Screen Diaries- 02/07/25

Wicked

Wicked- An Adaptation That Does More Than Defy Gravity Quick Take: I’m this far behind. I’m just now at the point where I can review Wicked, which I put a review out for easily over a month ago on my YouTube channel. Universal made a point of getting me a screener for this, and I was delighted. I did not make the journey to the cinema for this, as that time of year was just far too busy. Then, here comes the screener for my consideration, and I’m delighted. I was never worried about Ariana Grande. I think Cynthia Erivo … Continue reading Wicked

Going In Blind: memoir Of A Snail, the Outrun

I’ve already watched and reviewed both of these titles as I was initially offered screeners of them without audio description. Turns out, surprise! these two titles DO have audio description. the joke is on the studios still, because I’ve already voted everywhere I can vote, and because my accessibility needs were not important enough for them, these titles were neither nominated by me in any instance, nor did I vote for them. memoir Of A Snail- Second time through, my floating grade was pretty spot on. Adam Elliot’s stop-motion adult animation is still an oddly moving, at times incredibly quirky … Continue reading Going In Blind: memoir Of A Snail, the Outrun

The Small Screen Diaries- 02/06/25

There are a few more new shows joining the lineup today. As more and more of these start into my rotation, I may drop some hints of some shows that won’t be returning, and I’m done with. Like, my own list of cancellations. Titles I’ve removed from ‘continue watching”. Going In Blind: the bridges Of Madison county And the Great TTS/Ai Debate

this is the first day since I started doing Going In Blind where I only watched one film. the Bridges Of Madison County. And because I cultivate a following of highly intelligent readers, and thus I’m convinced you put two and two together. Celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year is the romantic drama the bridges Of Madison County, directed by Clint Eastwood, from an adapted screenplay by Richard laGravanese, who took the best-selling novel and put it to script. My first time ever through on this film, and I enjoyed it. I’m actually more familiar with the musical, as Jason … Continue reading Going In Blind: the bridges Of Madison county And the Great TTS/Ai Debate

TV Shows Watched: Prime Target: S1E4 (Apple Plus) with audio description, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man: S1E3 (Disney Plus) with audio description, the recruit: S2E4 (Netflix) with audio description, Paradise: S1E4 (Hulu) with audio description, Celebrity Bear Hunt: S1E1 (Netflix) with audio description. best Episode: Paradise- After causing my interest to wane a bit in episodes 2 and 3 after a really strong pilot, episode 4 came back with a vengeance, proving to be really interesting, twisty, and fleshed out a show that was starting to not make sense, by wrangling some things back together. Now, I feel like I’m back … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/06/25

Going In Blind: The Notebook, Conclave

The Notebook- celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2024, The Notebook seemed like a solid choice for a Valentines themed review. I love Nick Cassavetes’s adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’s book. I remember watching this at an advance employee screening when I was working in theatres, and the ending made me cry, not because of the beautiful romance, but because I had a family member who had dementia, and I watched them deteriorate. For me, every time I watch this, it is always for James Garner and Gena Rowlands, who turn in some truly heartbreaking performances. Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling are … Continue reading Going In Blind: The Notebook, Conclave

The Small Screen Diaries- 02/04/25

Peacock has decided not to order a second season of Hysteria. Considering I saw this billed as a limited series, I’m surprised as to why this is news. At this point, between limited series being transformed into non-limited, and renewed shows having renewals pulled, nothing means anything anymore. TV Shows Watched: St Dennis Medical: S1E8 (Peacock) with audio description, Mythic Quest: S1E1 (Apple Plus) with audio description, 911: Lone Star: Series Finale (Hulu) No Audio description, The Recruit: S2E3 (Netflix) with audio description, Ghosts: S4E10 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, Common Side Effects: S1E1 (MAX) with audio description, and The … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/04/25

Going In Blind: 1992, Random Hearts, La Chimera

We’re back! Another day, and another conversation on a set of films. 1992- this likely final film from ray Liotta also stars Tyrese Gibson and Scott Eastwood, and is set during the LA Riots and an opportunistic group of men who decide to have a heist while the world burns. There’s a surprising amount of depth here. Gibson is the lead, and he’s a gang member fresh back out on the streets, trying to lead a slightly different path than before, and protect his son, when he ends up colliding with the scene chewing Ray Liotta, who is also trying … Continue reading Going In Blind: 1992, Random Hearts, La Chimera

The Small Screen Diaries- 02/03/25

Big TV News! Sarah Michelle Gellar is closing a deal to reprise her role as Buffy Summers in a Hulu revival of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. If there’s anything we’ve learned, this show will be incredibly underwhelming, and unlikely to last more than 2 seasons. When they first announced plans to remake Buffy, the show got unnecessary blowback after plans were announced to cast a black actress as Buffy. Buffy was a specific archetype, battling that “dumb blonde” thing mixed with how TV was portraying kids from California, or even adults, in shows like Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place. … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/03/25

Going In blind: Y2K, You’re Cordially Invited, Cuckoo

My renewal went through for WordPress, and this seems like a perfect time to soft launch another thing I want to do. going In blind, is something so many people say when they don’t know anything about a movie. Well, I go in blind… to every movie. In today’s Small Screen diaries I didn’t mention any movies, because Going In blind is the film version of that. I hope to always have something to talk about here. I saw three films yesterday, one of them for the second time. this doesn’t mean I won’t be doing full reviews of any … Continue reading Going In blind: Y2K, You’re Cordially Invited, Cuckoo

The Small Screen Diaries- 02/03/25

Kicking off with news, I noticed in another news story that Apple Plus rescinded its second season order for The Completely Made up Adventures of Dick Turpin. This is a growing trend, which defeats the purpose of a renewal. Now, renewals mean nothing, and with limited series going on to have more seasons, like Nine Perfect Strangers later this year, there are no rules. There is another rule, and it is “if someone has been cancelled by Hollywood, burn all bridges as quickly as possible.” This could be attributed to people running as fast as they can from Carla Sofia … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/03/25
