The Small Screen Diaries- 02/03/25

Kicking off with news, I noticed in another news story that Apple Plus rescinded its second season order for The Completely Made up Adventures of Dick Turpin. This is a growing trend, which defeats the purpose of a renewal. Now, renewals mean nothing, and with limited series going on to have more seasons, like Nine Perfect Strangers later this year, there are no rules. There is another rule, and it is “if someone has been cancelled by Hollywood, burn all bridges as quickly as possible.” This could be attributed to people running as fast as they can from Carla Sofia … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/03/25

Best Of 2024: The Best performances Of The Year (Television)

Best Of 2024: Top 15 Performances Of The Year (Television) Another one of my Best Of lists. Here, the rules are that all of these shows represented had audio description. I made a rule that no more than two performers from any show could be on the list, as to not fill up the list with one show. I had a much longer list, but I cut to 50, combining all three (Comedy, Drama, and Limited), as well as Lead and Supporting, and gender. So, here are my top 50 performers of 2024, with their show, and where I watched … Continue reading Best Of 2024: The Best performances Of The Year (Television)

Best Of 2024: Top TV Ensembles Of The Year

Best Of 2024: Top 10 Ensembles (Television) Of The Year Kicking off my list, here’s the top 25 ensembles from last year. I grade this based on depth of the talent, not just a show where one or two people are doing all the heavy lifting. All genres (Comedy, Drama, Limited) are combined, and all 25 series have audio description. Below, I’ve listed with where I watched with audio description, but these shows may be available more than one place. If you want deeper thoughts, check out the video! 25) Cobra Kai (Netflix) 24) Agatha All Along (Disney Plus) 23) … Continue reading Best Of 2024: Top TV Ensembles Of The Year

Clone Cops

Clone Cops (2025)- An Indie, Self-Aware, Sci-Fi Camp Blast That Needs Word Of Mouth To Survive You don’t know what this is. It quite likely won’t play in a theatre near you. But, Clone Cops is the kind of film I can wrap my head around, because I know these filmmakers are fully aware of what they are making, what the story is, the fact that their budget isn’t that of a Marvel movie, and they are working with unknown on-screen talent. Clone Cops will live and die by those who find it as aware and fun as I did. My … Continue reading Clone Cops

The Wizard Of oz: 85th Anniversary

The Wizard Of Oz: 85th Anniversary- One Of The Best Audio Description Tracks Ever? Quick Take: This is one of the best tracks I’ve ever heard. It is as if the people making it knew they were touching greatness. The audio description for this film was going to be used time and time again, and needed to be perfect. To transport us into the world of oz, to give us a strong depth of description on Dorthy and her black and white life in Kansas, while embracing the technicolor parade of the Yellow Brick Road. And, to have this at … Continue reading The Wizard Of oz: 85th Anniversary

A Complete Unknown

A Complete Unknown- Timmy’s Best Work Since Beautiful Boy Quick Take: As part of my screener bonanza, I received A Complete Unknown without audio description. So, this review is my first thoughts on the film, but by no means my final thoughts. It was enough to give me a taste, and to have some idea of whether or not this film has actors in winning performances. If we’re being honest, that’s why most people are here, to see Timothee Chalamet play Bob Dylan. How good is he? How close does he look to the part? The funny thing about being … Continue reading A Complete Unknown

Analyze This: 25th Anniversary

Analyze This: 25th Anniversary- DeNiro And Crystal Still Pair Well Together Quick Take: Not everything needs a sequel, and this Billy Crystal/Robert DeNiro comedy got one anyway, but the first film was magic. It took what makes each one of these actors great, and just leaned in. Of course DeNiro plays a mob boss. That’s his thing. Crystal plays a psychiatrist, something he just did again in 2024 in Apple’s limited series Before. It is the story of a mob boss who has a panic attack, and seeks the counsel of a shrink to figure out what’s wrong with him. … Continue reading Analyze This: 25th Anniversary

Christmas Eve At Miller’s Point

Christmas Eve In Miller’s Point- Feels Like If IFC Started Making Christmas Movies Quick Take: I’ve actually seen this movie twice. And I’m just now getting around to putting those thoughts here. Originally, I was given a screener that did not have audio description, and later, i watched it with audio description, because I’d rather put out a review reflecting the actual worth of a movie, and not the lack of accessibility for that film. this Christmas movie feels like the most indie Christmas film. There really isn’t a lead character, or even an obvious plot. It just is a … Continue reading Christmas Eve At Miller’s Point

Time Passages

Time Passages (2025)- A personal Documentary Unpacking Things Left Unsaid Before Time Runs Out I remember as a kid growing up, my dad had purchased a camcorder for all those special occasions. Of course, everyone just uses their phones now, but I had a bulky camcorder that took a full VHS tape in the side of it. No mini-cassettes, and this was before digital was ever a thing. I have no idea what happened to all the recordings of me as a child, or my family. As a blind person, those videos now seem more precious because they offer audio, … Continue reading Time Passages

Sebastian

Sebastian- They Do Always Say Write What You Know Quick Take- Here’s an under the radar film from 2024 that has audio description, the queer drama Sebastian. The film centers around a young man who is looking to impress as a writer, and takes the assignment too seriously. He decides to write about sex workers, and then becomes one himself, using his own experiences to fuel his novel. Of course, there are complications, and backlash, but this film is pretty surface level, and isn’t really looking on tearing down the privilege of Sebastian, and instead any consequence he faces is … Continue reading Sebastian

Saturday Night

Saturday Night- Live From New York It’s 1975! Quick Take: Jason Reitman’s fast paced ensemble comedy didn’t quite land with audiences, though it landed on a lot of Top 10 lists. It became an underdog, which is kind of poignant, because it is based on a show that was an underdog. Saturday Night Live was set to fail, just a dalliance that was used to leverage against Johnny Carson and Tonight Show reruns on that night. The Not Ready For Primetime Players were an amalgamation of mostly future household names, but relatively unknown at the time. And a young Lorne … Continue reading Saturday Night

Carry On

Carry On (Netflix)- Taron Egerton And Jason Bateman Die Hard For The Holidays Quick Take: Every year there are a few Netflix titles that end up being worthy, that aren’t just festival pickups or Oscar bait. This past year, Carry On is one of a handful of Netflix originals I’d watch again. It didn’t reinvent the genre, by any means, but it plays to its strengths, and creates a solid action movie for the holidays. the strength lies in this back and forth between the mysterious baddie played devilishly well by Jason Bateman, and our intrepid hero, played with eagerness … Continue reading Carry On
