The Small Screen Diaries: 05/29/25

I’ve already reviewed the film once, but I was hoping to get a better grasp of the audio description for Captain America Brave New World when it hit Disney plus, but Disney Plus doesn’t want me to hear it either. The mix is awful. Some of the loud action sequences force the audio description to be inaudible. A lot of the time you’re straining. You can hear the audio description in a few of the quieter moments, so you know it is there, but it is just not mixed well. It’s a shame that this is now a representation of … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 05/29/25

Fear Street: Prom Queen

I was the RL Stine generation. I grew up on goosebumps, and the Give Yourself Goosebumps, and the more grown up Fear Street series, as well as the less grown up Fear Street that was more like a branch to Goosebumps. And all of it was just being released. I would go to the bookstore and anxiously await the next book. It also was a trend, so it wasn’t too nerdy to love. Most kids I knew were reading them at the time. Someone read the Fear Street books for Netflix, and has had a wildly different interpretation of those … Continue reading Fear Street: Prom Queen

Just Keep Swimming? Are The Odds Ever In My Favor?

Where I am now, is somewhere I never thought I would be. On one hand, I’m basically fine, moderately healthy, employed on some functional level, and I’m finally in some place in film criticism that got me just barely across the line. I’ve always wanted to be across that line. I was first published as a film critic in 1995 at the age of 12. Really. For 1995 and 1996, my local newspaper didn’t have a film critic. My interest in film was only constantly growing, and I wanted to fill an outlet. Papers had critics, so my newspaper for … Continue reading Just Keep Swimming? Are The Odds Ever In My Favor?

Spooky Season: 10 Frightfully Audio Described Titles On Disney plus

I mean, these are 10 films that match some Halloween vibes. it’s Disney plus, and I’m not including Hulu titles, so don’t expect anyone’s head getting ripped off. Or perhaps… 2) Coco Of course Coco has to make this list. It is about Día De Los Muertos, so how can it not be on the Halloween list? Pixar’s beautiful ally animated romp into the underworld features a memorable song about remembering, and is perfect for this holiday. It was also the last film i saw with vision, and … Continue reading Spooky Season: 10 Frightfully Audio Described Titles On Disney plus

Spooky Season: 10 Films On Hulu To Make You Scream (with Audio Description)

After successfully finding 10 titles on Peacock that had audio description, and qualified for this list, I’m pretty sure Hulu has 10 titles. Peacock made me compromise and include at least two films I didn’t actually like, but I recognize that some things are subjective. How strong is my Hulu list? Read below to find out! 2) Antlers This wendigo themed horror film has everything. creepy kids, body horror, violence, gore, jump scares, and great acting. The main kid in this is fantastic, and the adult cast does some really strong work in this very underrated horror film. Not for … Continue reading Spooky Season: 10 Films On Hulu To Make You Scream (with Audio Description)

Spooky Season- 10 Peacock Titles To Rip Your Face off

As audiences everywhere were dismayed to find out that Peacock was dropping Winnie The Pooh: Blood and honey 2 without audio description, it is not eligible for this list. These are the 10 scariest titles that are on Peacock and have audio description. I still refuse to tell you what this movie is about. Apathy At Hulu Leads To The inaccessibility Of Tentpole Series

Yeah, the title is click bait as hell, and I own that. But this post is about what people don’t take ownership in, and that is Hulu with The Bear. the absolute bane of my existence has been the term “FX on Hulu”, which seemingly is giving Hulu carte Blanche to screw over the blind and low vision community. Too often, shows like Reservoir Dogs and The Bear have launched without audio description. Trying to get them to care, they seem to think that the ‘FX’ part of that gives them some kind of hall pass to screw around with … Continue reading Apathy At Hulu Leads To The inaccessibility Of Tentpole Series

Not Really A Review Of The Creator

So why am i not really reviewing The Creator? Well, because Hulu be Hulu. The Creator is a rather expensive Fox titles released by Disney that wound up on Hulu a couple weeks ago. On New Year’s Eve, I published my review on my Youtube, and i think it’s important to post it rather quickly here. Even there, it isn’t really a review. I’ve watched a bunch of films this year because I think it’s important to explain what was missing by the choice to deny me reasonable accommodations for my disability by not providing audio description, especially on something … Continue reading Not Really A Review Of The Creator

Best Of 2023: Ranking The Streaming Services

It’s that time of year, for the Best of Lists. Check out my post from yesterday, which ranked the other film critics I share space with on YouTube. I selected Adam Does Movies as my favorite Film YouTuber of 2023. Which streaming service earned top honors this year? And, more importantly, which one is on the bottom? As a blind film critic, I am primarily concerned with accessibility, and the commitment to it. I want to be able to tell another blind individual that a certain service prioritizes them at a level worth their money. So, that, in addition to … Continue reading Best Of 2023: Ranking The Streaming Services

Best Of 2023: The Best Film critics To Watch

This is a new category for me. Of course, I would love it if everyone subscribed to my own YouTube (@macthemovieguy or YouTube.com/macthemovieguy), and consider me as your personal favorite critic. But I spend quite a bit of time on movie related YouTube channels, and listening to other critics discuss film. Many of these critics are highly entertaining, and if you are looking to subscribe to someone else in addition to me, this is my very first list. I always ask for people to subscribe to me, but I put my money where my mouth is, and I give others … Continue reading Best Of 2023: The Best Film critics To Watch
