The Small Screen Diaries- 08/08/24

TV News: Steve Martin will not be playing Tim Walz on SNL next season. I didn’t know this was a thing we were thinking about. i can also confirm, without asking them, that thousands of other actors and comedians won’t be either. I guess now I know who Tim Walz looks like. TV Shows: Time Bandits: S1E5 and S1E6 (Apple Plus) with audio description, Women In Blue: S1E3 (Apple Plus) with audio description, Sonny: S1E6 (Apple plus) with audio description, The Golden Girls: S7E? (Hulu) with audio description, and The Daily Show: Tuesday Night’s Edition (Paramount Plus) no audio description. … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 08/08/24

The Small Screen Diaries- 08/07/24

In the TV/Movie rumor mill, I’ve heard from some of the more conservative film critics that are claiming Marvel has been quietly pushing out all employees with ‘agendas”, because they realize their films are too woke. Basically. I think that’s silly nonsense. But, if a bunch of previously announced projects never come to fruition, then I guess we shall see. As a side note, I hate that we now have conservative film critics, like film criticism needs a left and right wing, rather than just being opinion based. What I always loved, was finding critics whose thoughts on movies resonated … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 08/07/24

Those About To Die: Season 1

This is where I come in like a wrecking ball. I’ve seen and heard the negative feedback on Peacock’s latest sword and sandals epic, but I have to say, I enjoyed the hell out of it. In a world of police procedurals, reboots, spinoffs, revivals, and clear copycat shows, there truly isn’t anything like this on air. You could try and point to something like House Of The Dragon, which has no real world application, or all the way back to Rome, which would just suggest there can only ever be one show about something, but right now, Roland Emmerich … Continue reading Those About To Die: Season 1

The Small Screen Diaries- 08/05/24

TV News? I mentioned that HBO aired a little teaser for The Last Of us, but they also aired a snippet of footage to remind you that there is another Game of Thrones series in the works. likely, we will see that one premiere before we see the third season of House Of The Dragon. I’d peg that for a late 2025 debut, maybe as early as a year from now. TV Shows Watched: House Of The Dragon: S2E8 (MAX) with audio description, Batman: Cpaed Crusader: S1E9 (Amazon) with audio description, Fantasmass: S1E5 (MAX) with audio description, Unstable: S2E2 (Netflix) … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 08/05/24

The Small Screen Diaries- 08/04/24

In TV News, HBo used last nights house of The Dragon season finale to tease The last Of Us Season 2 with some available footage. It’s a slow news day. TV Shows Watched: A Good Girls Guide To Murder: EPS 5 and 6 (Netfli) with audio description, Batman: Caped Crusader: S1E7 and S1E8 (Amazon) With Audio Description, and Interview With A Vampiree: S2E3 (AMC Plus) No Audio Description. I have featured all three before, and I don’t have a featured show today. Interview With A Vampire desperately needs audio description. As a member of a few critics groups, I’m trying … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 08/04/24

My news portion today is that WBD, the parent company behind niche streamer Boomerang, has decided to shutter the service and move its content to MAX. So, for people who were paying for both, congrats on saving money. And for people who didn’t have Boomerang, they had a lot of older cartoons on there, like Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo, The Flintstones, and others. It’ll be great for nostalgic adults and little kids. TV Shows Watched: A Good Girls Guide To Murder: S1E3 and S1E4 (Netflix) with audio description, The Goat: S1E? (Amazon) with audio description, and Manhattan: S1E6 (AMC … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 08/03/24

In TV News, the next Presidential Debate will be on September 4th between Trump and Harris, which will air on FOX News. Unsurprisingly, former President Trump has declined the previously suggested ABC debate. It will probably be at 9PM EST, and run for 90 minutes like the previous debate. As far as the rules go, there’s no reason to believe this would match the devious debate rules. TV Shows Watched: A Good Girls Guide To Murder: S1E2 (Netflix) with audio description, Batman: Caped Crusader: S1E3 and S1E4 (Amazon) with audio description, Desperate Housewives: S2E10 (Hulu) no audio description, and today’s feature. … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 08/02/24

The Small Screen Diaries- 08/01/24

In the news, one woman rises as another falls. Nora O’Donnell has decided to end her tenure at CBS News, leading the way for new faces to report the nightly news to the fans of the FBI franchise. Also, Carrie Underwood is filling the void left by Katy Perry. Fans have long been asking for an alumni to join the panel, and it was rumored that some were in the mix when ABC was looking to restart the franchise. However, they didn’t go that way. Luke and Lionel will be heading into their 8th season as judges, putting them pretty … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 08/01/24

Kicking it off with some TV news. Peacock has abandoned their planned reboot of Battlestar Galactica, meaning all you have is the excellent last version of it to watch over and over. Life certainly is tough. TV Shows I Watched: In addition to today’s feature, I also watched Tim Bandits: S1E3 (Apple Plus) with audio description, Sunny: S1E5 (Apple Plus) with audio description, The Daily Show with Ronnie Chen: Tuesday’s Episode (Paramount Plus) with audio description, and Cheers: I don’t know what season, but I’m into Kirstie Alley’s run (Paramount Plus) No audio description. Kicking it off with some TV news, Disney Plus has cancelled Renegade Nell after one season. This streamer has a really really hard time creating shows that run multiple seasons, and an even harder one doing it without Marvel or Star Wars. This is disappointing, but expected in many ways. TV Shows Watched: Cobra Kai: S6E3 (Netflix) with audio description, The Traitors UK: S2E? (Peacock) No Audio Description, The Daily Show With Jon Stewart- Monday’s Episode (Paramount Plus) No Audio Description, Regular Show: S1E7 (MAX) No Audio Description, and All In The family: S5E19 (FreeVee) No Audio Description. Plus, today’s … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 07/30/24

The Small Screen Diaries- 07/29/24

Interesting News? Tim Allen’s sitcom was picked up by ABC. Previously, he had entertained the idea of doing a Home Improvement revival, which was quickly shut down by Patricia Richardson, so this gives him another opportunity to have a long running sitcom. Remember, Last Man Standing did start on ABC, before being cancelled and moving to FOX. So, this is home base for him, and perhaps because Last Man Standing proved ABC’s brass wrong then, he’ll last longer the third time around. TV Shows I Watched: The Ark: S22E1 (Peacock) with audio description (a show destined to land in the … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 07/29/24

Exploding Kittens: Season 1

Oh what a difference a generation makes. I remember when it was such a huge scandal to have God, The Devil, and Bob on NBC, and here we are on Netflix with a series that has a boardroom in Heaven vote to turn God into a cat, and make him spend time on earth, and God is voiced by Tom Ellis (Lucifer). Whoever made God, The Devil, and bob should pitch a revival. The easy plot is that both God, and the daughter of the Devil are sent to earth as cats where they both interact with the same family, … Continue reading Exploding Kittens: Season 1

The Small Screen Diaries- 07/28/24

So, after a week off, we’re back. The format is going to change to reflect more of what I was doing in the audio description essentials, and I will acknowledge any program I watched, with or without audio description, because I want to continue to engage shows that need audio description. Generally, I’ll kick it off with any film/TV news I want to tackle, move into the list of what I watched (including some extras now) and then focus hard on one title for the day. So, the only news I want to talk about is that the Robert Downey … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 07/28/24

The Audio Description Essentials- Day 7

I’ve been doing this long enough now that now whenever a decision is made to release a film without audio description, I feel like it is because they feel like we can watch it without audio description. Because, if the implication was anything other than that, they should and could create a cheaper version for us that filters to give us just the audio described content, so we are paying the appropriate price for the amount of content described. As an example, let’s say you were paying 10 dollars for StreamingPlus, and that made up service actually had 10% of … Continue reading The Audio Description Essentials- Day 7

The Audio Description Essentials- Day 6

Really, something I haven’t jumped into quite as much individually is casting in audio description. Is someone’s voice right for the project? No narrator is appropriate for all situations. that just isn’t a thing. At some point, that voice is out of its comfort zone, and it starts to sound off putting, or it clashes with the project it is narrating. Some of the best talents do have a broad range, because they can change up their vocal performance. That allows them to sound serious enough for an Oscar bait drama, or light enough for a comedy, and even engaging … Continue reading The Audio Description Essentials- Day 6
