Going In Blind: 50 First Dates

Another romantic comedy for Valentine’s Day, this one being the Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore reteam that was a hit with audiences, and just turned 20 last year. this movie charmed me enough in its initial release for me to buy the DVD, and before this, I would say I’ve seen this maybe four times total? this might have been my 5th. It has been a minute, and I do like some other Sandler movies more. plus, as you get older, some of the things you used to like, don’t age well. some do, some don’t. Didn’t like Ace Ventura as much, … Continue reading Going In Blind: 50 First Dates

The Small Screen Diaries- 02/11/25

TV Shows Watched: St Dennis Medical: S1E? (Peacock) with audio description, Mythic Quest: S4E2 (Apple plus) with audio description, Paradise: S1E5 (Hulu) with audio description, Apple Cider Vinegar: S1E4 (Netflix) with audio description, Celebrity Bear Hunt: S1E3 (Netflix) with audio description, Ghosts: S4E? (Paramount Plus), Common Side Effects: S1E2 (MAX) with audio description, and Surviving Black hawk Down: S1E1 (Netflix) Best Episode: Honestly? I can’t choose. I think a lot of shows I saw had strong episodes without any having their best. St Dennis Medical was predictably entertaining again as they chased Yelp reviews, ghosts was fun as Thor sought … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/11/25

Going In blind: Four Weddings And A Funeral, Shall We Dance

Four Weddings And A Funeral- The big V-Day is almost upon us, so as a single person headed into the holiday, I’m putting myself through the torture of watching romcoms for you guys. This is my second time through this film, but first with audio description. I didn’t get to see this in its initial theatrical release. I was 11, and it just didn’t strike my fancy. I saw it later, but I really can’t remember how or when. But I do remember seeing it, visually, so somewhere before 8 years ago. Hugh Grant, Andie MacDowell, Kristin Scott Thomas, John … Continue reading Going In blind: Four Weddings And A Funeral, Shall We Dance

The Small Screen Diaries- 02/10/25

TV Shows Watched: Clean Slate: S1E2 (Amazon) with audio description, XO Kitty: S2E5 (Netflix) with audio description, Going Dutch: S1E5 (Hulu) No Audio Description, Apple Cider Vinegar: S1E3 (Netflix) with audio description, The Kardashians: S1E3 (Hulu) with audio description, and Elzabeth: S2E? (Paramount Plus) with audio description. best Episode: Elzabeth- I’ll give Carrie Preston’s spunky lawyer the win. This is a delightful series, with a great episode every week, and an ensemble cast that never takes away from Preston, but gradually continues to have slow character development. This week’s case was fun, and it referenced back to things from Elzabeth’s … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/10/25

Going In Blind: Out Of Africa, the Lion King At The Hollywood Bowl

Out Of Africa- Actually, my first time through this behemoth. It is a Best Picture winner, and it currently has audio description on Netflix. All best Picture winners should have audio description. I say this, because I think Netflix also has Parasite, which does not. But, this is a 2 hour, 40 minute movie that felt like three. runtime doesn’t always bother me, as I didn’t feel it with the brutalist or Oppenheimer, but I did here. Meryl Streep stars, and is great, but she is always great. the debate becomes about which performances she should have actually won for. … Continue reading Going In Blind: Out Of Africa, the Lion King At The Hollywood Bowl

The Small Screen Diaries- 02/09/25

Welcome back. I hope your favorite team won last night. If not, think of all the other fans whose team didn’t even get to the Super Bowl. And, the ones whose favorite team hasn’t been to one in a long time. There are actually teams that have never been to a Super Bowl. Ever. I didn’t watch, but I almost never watch. After spending the week feeling rather defeated for a multitude of reasons, by poor audio description, by having to justify my existence when I requested a screener from a rep who sent ME the email offering a screener, … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/09/25

Quality Check: Tank (1984)

Well, my anticipation for a specific title has now cost me a second week. I’m trying to bounce around services with these quality checks, so I’m not doing one company over and over. i was going to do Death Without Mercy, the new Paramount Plus documentary, but they didn’t spring for audio description, and it isn’t in the English language. I could go back and do one I’ve already seen, but I have yet to do a quality check on a rewatch. Therefore, i sought out something. While browsing for Netflix to maybe have a new International film with audio … Continue reading Quality Check: Tank (1984)

Renner

Renner (2025)- Frankie Muniz Takes On AI Thrillers Do you think Alan Turing really saw this in the future? I know we refer to the Turing test, but I don’t think he quite knew that artificial intelligence would reach where it is now, and that kids everywhere would just stop doing homework. I mean, my google homepage literally has a button for homework help AI. Help. Right. In this 2025 dystopian AI movie, which follows an onslaught of AI related films last year (most of them were abysmal like Afraid or Subserviance), Renner is hoping to buck the trend and … Continue reading Renner

An Open Letter To ViTac

I learned how to properly spell this companies name. that’s where I’m at. If I told you that if someone were to ask me which company provides consistently the worst audio description, and the answer was ViTac, does that give you pause? Do you actually care about the quality of audio description you produce? I’ve seen you drag some ABC shows into the mud of mediocrity, but nothing you do is quite as functionally awful as The Trators. While your writer might occasionally get some decent description in from time to time, it is so bad I know other people … Continue reading An Open Letter To ViTac

Going In Blind: Moana, Moana 2

I decided to double feature this spunky way finder and her various trips into the big blue world. these movies are not created equal. sequels are hard, especially when you are making one for Disney that is more content with pushing out brand awareness than a movie that feels like the organic sequel to Moana. the first film came out a year before my vision loss, and so when I jumped back in, it was a world i was familiar with. I knew what Moana looked like. I knew the songs. i remembered her journey. I knew that fucking crab was … Continue reading Going In Blind: Moana, Moana 2

The small Screen Diaries- 02/07/25

TV Shows Watched: The Recruit: S2E6 (Netflix) with audio description, severance: S2E4 (Apple Plus) with audio description, Celebrity Bear Hunt: S1E2 (Netflix) with audio description, School Spirits: S2E2 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, Shifting Gears: S1E5 (Hulu) with audio description, SNL: Chalamet (Peacock) no audio description yet. Best Episode: Severance- Granted, the competition for Severance every Friday is pretty easy to beat. Severance is just on another level. but this weird retreat, which followed that excellent cliffhanger in the third episode, which then found another interesting way to end an episode, clearly was the best thing I saw. Runner Up: … Continue reading The small Screen Diaries- 02/07/25

Wicked

Wicked- An Adaptation That Does More Than Defy Gravity Quick Take: I’m this far behind. I’m just now at the point where I can review Wicked, which I put a review out for easily over a month ago on my YouTube channel. Universal made a point of getting me a screener for this, and I was delighted. I did not make the journey to the cinema for this, as that time of year was just far too busy. Then, here comes the screener for my consideration, and I’m delighted. I was never worried about Ariana Grande. I think Cynthia Erivo … Continue reading Wicked

Going In Blind: memoir Of A Snail, the Outrun

I’ve already watched and reviewed both of these titles as I was initially offered screeners of them without audio description. Turns out, surprise! these two titles DO have audio description. the joke is on the studios still, because I’ve already voted everywhere I can vote, and because my accessibility needs were not important enough for them, these titles were neither nominated by me in any instance, nor did I vote for them. memoir Of A Snail- Second time through, my floating grade was pretty spot on. Adam Elliot’s stop-motion adult animation is still an oddly moving, at times incredibly quirky … Continue reading Going In Blind: memoir Of A Snail, the Outrun

The Small Screen Diaries- 02/06/25

There are a few more new shows joining the lineup today. As more and more of these start into my rotation, I may drop some hints of some shows that won’t be returning, and I’m done with. Like, my own list of cancellations. Titles I’ve removed from ‘continue watching”. TV Shows Watched: The Recruit: S2E5 (Netflix) with audio description, High Potential: S1E12 (Hulu) with audio description, Will Trent: S3E5 (Hulu) with audio description, Apple Cider Vinegar: S1E1 (Netflix) with audio description, Clean Slate: S1E1 (Amazon) with audio description, and The Rookie: S7E5 (Hulu) no audio description Best Episode: Apple Cider … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/06/25
