The Small Screen Diaries- 05/13/25

TV News: Hulu failed to upload the new episode of The Handmaids Tale with its accompanying audio description, so I was unable to watch it. Some shows, I don’t mind because I know audio description isn’t coming, so there’s no point in waiting, and other shows like Will trent, when they don’t get next air audio description, I care about less. But, I’m not advancing any further on the show that has been topping my weekly rankings until Hulu makes it right. I’m tired of constantly having this problem with Hulu. Why is it so exclusive to Hulu? Why is … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 05/13/25

TV News: A couple more tidbits on renewals/cancellations. NBC also axed The Irrational, leaving them as the network of slaughter. i couldn’t find any official news on Grosse Pointe Garden Society, but that can’t possibly still be in consideration. I think their only remaining bubble series is Brilliant Minds, among scripted programs. And, it appears ABC hasn’t officially decided on Dr Odyssey either. However, if you are afraid The last Of Us won’t get to finish the story, HBO has already committed to a third season, but Paramount Plus/Showtime is leaving Yellowjackets hanging. Netflix also hasn’t decided on ransom Canyon, and … Continue reading The Small Screen diaries: 05/11/25

Going In Blind: Wellwood

I like supporting independent film. Not necessarily student film, or a gaggle of shorts, but filmmakers who manage to rally a crew and cast together. often picking these titles at random without guidance results in a wide range of results, but now that I get requests for coverage, I get screeners for films no one is really paying attention to. Case in point, wellwood, a creature feature starring Oscar nominee Keisha Castle Hughes. In the PR email I got for this, it mentioned the reality that often horror films that fall off the obvious path have a hard time attracting … Continue reading Going In Blind: Wellwood

The Small Screen Diaries: The Weekly Rankings

Heading into this week, i was close to finishing several shows. So, with some shows wrapping up this week, and a limited number of new shows joining, my list might start to look a bit more like a sane person eventually. New Shows this Week: the last Anniversary (AMC Plus), Tales Of The Underworld (Disney Plus), The Stolen Girl (Disney Plus), Forever (Netflix), Drag Race All Stars (Paramount Plus), and making a return is the Pitt (MAX) after getting awards buzz. Winner: The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu) with audio description- it has just been an exceptional final season so far, and … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: The Weekly Rankings

TV News: NBC is wielding an axe! mov out of the way! The network, which just cancelled Suits LA, also killed Lopez Vs Lopez, Night Court, and Found. Those shows were in their third, fourth, and second seasons respectively. Is anyone safe from the Peacock’s death slash? TV Shows Watched: The Bondsman: S1E8 (Amazon) with audio description, The Righteous Gemstones: Series Finale (MAX) with audio description, Survival of The Thickest: S2E7 (Netflix) with audio description, Top chef: Restaurant Wars! Another Simple Favor

Another one? the thing about doing favors is that typically at some point we’re even, and you can’t just go around requesting extra favors. So, i think it is quite presumptuous that director Paul Feig believes he has earned another favor from me. I’m not sure what he has done to even the playing field, and I’m starting to worry that our relationship is just one sided. i write about him, he never calls. he never writes. i review a film of his, and just crickets. Now he wants another favor? From me? You’re lucky I really liked the first … Continue reading Another Simple Favor

Behind The Curtain: Stranger Things: the First Shadow

Netflix decided in their infinite wisdom to release a documentary, and make it feature length, that is essentially a self congratulatory propaganda piece designed to make you think their live stage play, Stranger Things: The Long Shadow is destined for Broadway glory. I felt that the Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl concert didn’t do anything substantial, really failed to acknowledge the stage production, and felt like a special feature on a physical disc. This is that, it just has audio description from someone who rarely ever gets praise. So, due to the incredibly basic nature of what this is, … Continue reading Behind The Curtain: Stranger Things: the First Shadow

TV News: NBC surprisingly cancelled Suits LA after one season. Honestly, i figured just on name alone it would get another season, and the formula for rebooting old USA shows has triggered revival news now for Royal Pains. So, I figured the format was working. If I was NBC, i would have worked a deal to have a second season where Harvey became a series regular, to help fuel the audience. I’m not that big of a fan, I’m just surprised NBC didn’t try. I mean, Night Court is still on air… and they reworked it. TV Shows Watched: Tales … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 05/09/25

TV News: Not that I was surprised by the news, nor do I cover the show, but if you were waiting with bated breath, NBC did pick up both SVU and the flagship revival of the original law and order for next season. TV News: Apple’s PR Team was nice enough to email me directly, so i didn’t have to rely upon second hand sources, to tell me that The Studio, their hit new comedy destined for Emmy nominations, has been renewed for a second season. it feels somewhat meta for a TV show about a studio head with the ability to green light project has itself been green lit. Again. TV Shows Watched: Tales of the Underworld: S1E4 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Andor: S2E7 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Dying For Sex: S1E8 (Hulu) with audio description,Black mirror: S1E1 (Netflix) with … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 05/07/25

Rust

I have varying levels of surprise and anger surrounding the lack of accessibility in any given film. Typically, the low end of the scale are documentaries that are still seeking distribution, and then on the high end of my rage machine are major projects done by studios, distributors, or streaming services where the intent was clearly for that project to be a focus, and they decided to not include us. Then, there’s Rust. This is sort of a unique animal in and of itself, because of its high amount of news coverage, it remains a bit of a sideshow in … Continue reading Rust

Woke up this morning to find out that Il Douche has decided to reopen Alcatraz as a functional prison, which I’ve been there, and it is not. So, of course, now I have to watch the Rock. He also likely had the same thought, remembered The Rock, said “why don’t they make them like they used to?”, and then put a 100% tariff on International cinema. I still have no idea what that even means functionally, as to where the tariff would be applied, or how co-productions work.
