No Hard Feelings

Where I Watched It: Netflix English Audio Description?: Yes Comedy is in such a weird place. We have made a lot of social changes, and it’s like no one knows how to be funny, or what to laugh at anymore. Even a lot of your comedy classics have at LEAST one joke that really didn’t age well. On top of that, most of them aren’t even going to theatres. When a comedy does go, it almost feels like an event. So naturally, Jennifer Lawrence, who I swear was a child just a few moments ago… and I feel so old … Continue reading No Hard Feelings

Kandahar

Where I Watched It: Hulu English Audio Description?: No Earlier today I watched the 7th episode of the final season of sex Education, and it featured the wheelchair bound Issac not being able to use the “lift” because it was broken again. They’ve tackled this before, and this time, he just got tired of it, and called out his school for lack of accessibility. He was joined by two other disabled students voicing their solidarity, with the hearing impaired girl giving a testimony of what it’s like for people to expect her to read lips all the time and how … Continue reading Kandahar

The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/13/23

Yesterday was the nominations for the Critics Choice Film section, and my quick hot take is: they are more concerned with being a bellwether for predicting the Oscar’s that they aren’t doing anything interesting anymore. I think their choices are solid, and mostly what everyone is talking about, with very few exceptions. It’s just that I’ve spent the whole year listening to critics all over the internet talk about their undying love of Past Lives, and how much they want to give Selene Song an Oscar nomination in director, or how is’t a shame that Tao Yoo and John Meggaro … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/13/23

Blue Beetle

Where I Watched It: MAX English Audio Description Provided By: Deluxe Narrated By Darrin Revitz It is really hard to know what to do with blue beetle. He’s the end of the old regime, and now James Gunn gets to do whatever he wants with all your favorite DC characters until that eventually loses steam and they give the thing to…. Greta Gerwig. That’s my current running guess. But for now, Miguel from Cobra Kai demands a review. It’s kinda funny to think that this actor doing all these fight scenes probably learned a lot of his combat skills from … Continue reading Blue Beetle

I Looked At The Netflix Report So You Don’t Have To

Netflix recently released a massive list of 18K titles that had at least 50K viewing hours on the platform for the first six months of 2023. They plan on making bi-annual reports like this and breaking down the idea that they aren’t transparent. I looked at it so you don’t have to. The list values time watched in hours, not necessarily who watched the whole season. So the longer the program, the better off it is. however, the list is broken down into seasons, so a powerhouse like grey’s Anatomy doesn’t propel to the top simply because it has a … Continue reading I Looked At The Netflix Report So You Don’t Have To

The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/12/23

Woke up to the tributes pouring in for Andre Braugher, who passed away at the age of just 61. He was such a brilliant actor, who could handle drama and comedy. I’m not going to lie and talk about how his performance on Homicide changed my life. I was young, and I never watched Homicide (or NYPD Blue for that matter). I think my favorite performance of his is as the Captain on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, as the seemingly normal one, who as you continued on with the series learned more and more about how eclectic he really was to match … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/12/23

Rustin

Where I Watched It: Netflix English Audio Description Provided By: International Digital Center Written By Dakota Green Narrated By Sri Gordon This time last year I was still eternally optimistic about Danielle Detweiler getting an Oscar nomination for her terrific work in Till. It seemed like the support for Till had been stripped down to just her commanding lead performance, but no matter, she delivered a powerhouse performance voters couldn’t turn away from. I forget that just because a black actor or actress delivers a terrific performance doesn’t necessarily mean they will end up on the final list. Flash forward … Continue reading Rustin

Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie

Where I Watched It: Paramount Plus English Audio Description?: Yes I’m 40, and have no kids. Some might describe me as a giant man child, but I still am not a kid. However, I don’t believe in reviewing things in this ultra film snob way like Paw Patrol is offensively beneath me. It’s not made for me, which is something i think most adult critics need to be OK with, and that is fine. the Paw Patrol franchise is considered a Nick Jr series, not even a full Nickelodeon one that could arguably appeal to everyone. It is programming specifically … Continue reading Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie

The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/11/23

The Golden Globe nominations came out and several TV shows managed to work their way onto the list. But, mostly Succession. 1) Bodies (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited I’m enjoying the mystery of it all, but my complaint is the same. Even as the story impresses me, there are too many damn characters across too many timelines, and these episodes feel crammed and jumbled. I shouldn’t always be wondering who the hell someone is. but, every episode so far, I either wonder who they are, or what timeline we are in. Episode Grade: B+ 2) Billions (Paramount Plus) … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/11/23

Insidious: The Red Door

Where I Watched It: Netflix English Audio Description?: Yes The Insidious franchise is something I’m not really familiar with. i did actually try to get caught up, but at the time, insidious was on MAX, and did not have audio description. Even with that, I did try to watch the first film so I could at least have some context. Obviously, a film full of nightmares and jump scares just doesn’t play well without audio description. Back when i could see, I do remember seeing stills of that Darth Maul looking creature, so I assume everything is just that. But, … Continue reading Insidious: The Red Door

John and Jen

Where I Watched it: Broadway HD English Audio Description?: No It has been a minute since I have reviewed something from Broadway HD, and this is a belated review of John and Jen, which I assume is still on the service, though I did not watch this in December. This musical is written originally by Andrew Lippa, who would go on to work on musicals like The Addams Family, but this revival is specifically getting punched up by Jason Robert Brown. So, it’s a little bit different, and you can feel Brown’s touch in the score. Of the musicals you … Continue reading John and Jen

The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/10/23

Today, the Golden Globes announce their nominations. Do I have any WILD predictions? Usually the Globes find a way of throwing love to new things, and acting like they are trendsetters. I noticed another critics group put him in their Best Actor list, so I actually gave Ramon Rodriguez a slot this year for Will Trent. That’s my boldest prediction on the TV side. If I get it right, I think I level up. 1) Blue Eye Samurai (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Unknown I was thinking this would be a half hour anime, but this thing is an … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/10/23

21 Grams

This is usually where I tell you where I watched it, and if it had audio description. It did, and i have no idea. Sometimes, i watch a random movie and bank it for when I need a review but didn’t have the time to watch it. I saw this back in July or August, and didn’t post a prerecorded YouTube review until November. I want to say Netflix. But, it may not be there anymore, so where I watched it five months ago, it could now be somewhere else. but, I had free time, and figured I’d check off … Continue reading 21 Grams

Sly

Where I Watched It: Netflix English Audio Description Provided By: International Digital Center Written By Valerie Hunter Narrated By: Kimberly Chatterly Already this year, I’ve seen documentaries dedicated to Wynonna Judd, Pamela Anderson, Michael j Fox, Rock Hudson, Albert Brooks, Mary Tyler Moore, Judy Blume, and some guy named Mr. Chow. That’s not to count out docuseries like Beckham or Arnold. So, Sly is for some reason a drop in the bucket this year, and in the same year where Arnold had a three hour limited series. Sly can just be edited into one film? This covers the same distance, … Continue reading Sly

10 With A Flag

Where I Watched It: Screener Link English Audio Description?: Currently, No Beggars cannot be choosers. When I put out into the universe that my life would be easier if I got screener copies from studios, and a guy swings by and gives me the link to the screener for his short film still trying to lock in a distribution deal, I can’t look a gift horse in the mouth. So, congrats 10 With A Flag, you just got a review. I don’t normally review short films, because they are a monster in themselves. Most have the kind of budget you … Continue reading 10 With A Flag
