Magazine Dreams
It’s a cautionary tale. Certainly before we have seen actors skirt awards recognition, only to have their hopes dashed when it turns out they have a deep dark horrible secret. Kevin Spacey was edited out of All The Money in The World, and replaced by Christopher Plummer, who went on to get an Oscar nomination. Shia labeouf watched his pieces Of A Woman co-star Vanessa Kirby land a nomination, but his chances fell off the map. I should say, Spacey has since been cleared of all charges, and labeouf is still working. But the awards chance came and went. That’s the … Continue reading Magazine Dreams
Going In Blind: The Year So Far: July Edition
In my third edition of how the year is going so far, I’m now up to 181 titles released in 2025 (to the best of my knowledge). I have seen some films that have yet to secure distribution from film festivals, so they could be later titles. For now, I remain optimistic. Some big titles I still need to see include F1, M3gan 2.0, Friendship, Elio, and Mission Impossible: Final reckoning. Just to name a few. the Top 15 Films of The Year So Far: Deaf President Now Tornado the Parenting Lavender Men Sinners The Assessment the Amateur The ruse … Continue reading Going In Blind: The Year So Far: July Edition

The Legend Of Ochi
A24 once again steps foot into the world of animation with the lackluster Legend of ochi, which takes a familiar concept, and attempts to put an A24 spin on things. I think the A24 worship is a little silly, given the fact that they are just a distribution studio, and a film like this, which is fairly generic and not terribly indicative of their artistic lean, examine why “A24 vibes” goes only as far as it can. This is A24, and it doesn’t have A24 vibes. The story revolves around this fantastical creature, the Ochi, which is a little like … Continue reading The Legend Of Ochi

Drop
What is the worst date you’ve ever been on? if you want to feel better about that, Meghann Fahy gets a doozy in Drop, the new Blumhouse thriller from Christopher Landon (happy Death Day). Blumhouse typically works with horror films, but this is a tight thriller, using time and limited locations to drive the story. It also does have audio description, and considering the clues you’ll be picking up, I’d highly recommend using it. Fahy plays a single mother raising her son mostly on her own, with occasional help from her sister (violet Bean). She has been talking online with … Continue reading Drop
The Small Screen Diaries- The Weekly Rankings
I’m going to start trying to not have more than 60 active shows. Honestly, that is a lot of TV shows on an active watchlist. Not always does every show have new episodes. Joining this week are several heavy hitters including Iron Heart (Disney Plus), Squid Game (Netflix), The Bear (Hulu), Smoke (Apple Plus), and Countdown (Amazon). A few shows reached the end of their seasons as denoted below. WINNER: Hacks (MAX)- Finishing on top. I can’t wait to see where they take this show next season, and I’m really pulling for an Emmy win for Hannah Einbinder in Supporting … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- The Weekly Rankings

And we’re back. Thanks to all for the birthday wishes. But, what did i actually watch on my birthday? Not much. I did also watch Magazine Dreams, but a lot of your birthday is spent talking to people calling you once a year on your birthday. even though I only had two of those calls, they both broke an hour. How are you? Do you still work? That’s amazing. Wow. Inspirational. So… you go outside? Wow. Amazing. Inspirational. So you can find things to do? Wow. Amazing. inspirational. TV Shows Watched: Smoke: S1E1 (Apple Plus) with audio description, Squid Game: … Continue reading The Small Screen diaries- 06/28/25

Sorry to keep spamming those of you looking for just the meat and potatoes of the diaries, but today is my birthday. As I’m writing this, so tomorrow, I’ll be reflecting on my birthday, which is what this column usually is. I did a long video for my youtube, so I wanted to do at least some acknowledgement. As another year goes by, I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me along the way, or taken a chance on the concept of a blind film critic. There are still plenty of narrators and writers I would love to talk … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 06/27/25
The Amateur
For a while we seemed to be stuck on “a particular set of skills” movies coming out of the success of taken. Then, John Wick ultimately took that and spun it into a slightly new aim. With that, they showed this expanded world, with shady organizations, and other like minded agents and assassins. just look at how much effort Jason Statham’s The Beekeeper went into expanding the lore of a film, without knowing if a sequel would come. A sequel is coming, and a sequel might come for the Amateur as well. the Amateur feels like it is a larger … Continue reading The Amateur
Going In Blind: hot Milk
Just to be transparent, this opens in theatres today, and I expect it to have audio description. I was given an advance screener, but I didn’t rush to the mountaintop because I didn’t want to be one of the first out of the gate to say this isn’t that great. hot Milk is a directorial debut, and an adaptation, releasing from IFC with a plot I should be more intrigued by, but sadly not. Emma Mackey and Fiona Shaw play daughter and mother. Mom has been unable to walk since her daughter was four, and they are seeking more medical … Continue reading Going In Blind: hot Milk

Quote Of Yesterday: “I don’t watch gay movies. I like action movies.”- Random Blind Woman Who Was Unfortunately Called On To Speak From The virtual Audience. I didn’t get a chance to respond, which is probably a good thing. So, here we go… dear Karen, you felt comfortable labeling gay movies as a broad genre, instead of a special interest group, so the question begs would you have been comfortable saying you didn’t like black movies? is it OK for me to follow up with I don’t like girly movies? Or, I don’t watch films with women? get back in … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 06/26/25

Going In blind: rent Free
Releasing this weekend, Rent Free is a buddy comedy for the Gen Z and Millennial crowd. the promise broken of an American dream flows through this indie comedy about two best friends, who are financially strapped, and try to live without having to spend money. it subverts the immediate need to turn itself into a romantic comedy where instead of being best friends, they must have a realization that they were meant for each other. instead, it focuses more on them living in Austin with dreams of saving up to move to New York. it didn’t have audio description, which … Continue reading Going In blind: rent Free
