Death Of A Unicorn
A24 should be careful. If they push out too many films without their signature “A24 vibes”, their cult following might shift. Of course, i always thought the worship around a distributor was odd. They buy movies and release them, and A24 pushes out a lot of indies. I suppose they have nabbed a certain amount of burgeoning auteur works to blur that line, but Death Of A unicorn is surprisingly mainstream and silly for the studio that just had a plethora of Awards friendly titles last year. this is from the studio that just gave you the Brutalist, Babygirl, Sing … Continue reading Death Of A Unicorn

Echo Valley
I know these streamers don’t think about patterns, but over the last couple of years, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed some June films dropping on Apple Plus. This was the window for Cha Cha Real Smooth, and also for Fancy Dance. If you haven’t seen either of those, I highly recommend. Echo Valley seems more in tune to the bumps along the way Apple struggled with last year, putting out the failed Oscar bait Blitz, the critically derided Argylle, and the forgettable The Instigators. they have a lot riding on their Brad Pitt/Joseph Kosinski collaboration F1, so echo Valley is more of … Continue reading Echo Valley

I need to find a WordPress theme that works for me. I guess this current one has no search bar? I’m sorry about that, and I’ll be seeing if I can fix the issues of this one, or change it again. I just had an old theme that was centered a lot around having places for images I don’t use, so I wanted something that matches what I do, and wasn’t image driven. it shouldn’t be that hard. Deep Cover
What happens when you send three improv actors into a sting operation? This movie happens. In one of the more rewatchable films to go straight to Prime video, Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World, Argylle), Orlando Bloom (pirates Of The Caribbean, Gran turismo), and Nick Mohammed (Ted Lasso) find themselves asked to do their duty for their country, and get paid to do it. As aspiring actors who have either barely been or never were, this is an opportunity they can’t turn down. Their oddball pairing works, with Howard actually playing a bit more of the straight man character, leaving Bloom … Continue reading Deep Cover

The Accountant 2
Nine years ago, Ben Affleck played an assassin with a code. He seemed to just be good at certain tasks, and funneled the money he got into good causes. Affleck also had to try and work a realistic representation of Autism Spectrum disorder into his character. Audiences responded, and continued to respond as the film found footing on home video and streaming. Nine years later, which isn’t long enough to be a legacy sequel, but is too long to make anyone believe a sequel was always planned, we get The Accountant 2. But is this sequel a bit more Folie … Continue reading The Accountant 2

Movies With Pride: Burlesque
As i looked into a few titles for Pride month, I noticed Burlesque. Is this really a Movie With pride? there’s something so inherently queer about this film, yet it appears to only really have one supporting character that is gay, and is played by a straight actor. Perhaps this comes from living in a metro area where burlesque is an actual thing. i know burlesque performers, and most of them are somewhere on the LGBTQ scale. Not all, but more common than not. this is also a movie I wasn’t a fan of the first time, but it had … Continue reading Movies With Pride: Burlesque
Tribeca 2025: The Travel Companion
Just when you think you’re out, Tribeca pulls you right back in. With one final hanging review, the travel Companion is the kind of film festivals were born to showcase. These directors are not well known, the cast has limited credits to their name, and yet, this is one of those human condition movies carefully disguised as a comedy/drama. Like most films seeking distribution, this doesn’t have an audio description track, so my ability to nail down a firm grade on a narrative feature drifted away. I remain optimistic a strong distributor will back this, and describe it. Basically, Simon … Continue reading Tribeca 2025: The Travel Companion
The Small Screen diaries: The Weekly Rankings
Another day, another dollar. Another week, another set of shows being ranked. Some new shows debuted, like FUBAR (Netflix), Next Gun NYC (peacock), and Sherlock and daughter (MAX), but also a great time to catch up on some old shows, including Euphoria (MAX), Breaking Bad (Netflix), King of The Hill (Hulu), and Futurama (Hulu). WINNER: Hacks (MAX) with audio description- Hacks wins the week again. Two episodes still left, so it shouldn’t be losing its spot anytime soon. But, can Hacks sweep the Emmys? That’s the question.
