The Royal Hotel- A Second Look
Rather than update my old review, I wanted to make a point that I came back around to The Royal Hotel after Hulu addded audio description. Originally, they dropped this film a few months back, and it did not have audio description. since then, Neon has become a little more aware of their content heading to Hulu, and rectified the lack of accessibility. So, it is no longer “unwatchable”.\ It very much is a wild experience watching a film I’ve never visually seen without audio description, and now doing it again. there were so many things I was unable to … Continue reading The Royal Hotel- A Second Look
Angels In The Outfield: 30th Anniversary
Despite what many believed, Disney Plus did not launch with every Disney movie ever made. Fans of movies like Air Bud and Angels in The Outfield found out they had to wait. Well, i waited. So, where’s the audio description? Disney is usually pretty good about making sure their own films, especially Disney theatrically branded content, has audio description. Some pretty random titles have it, and they can’t claim they didn’t know the debut of a 30 year old movie was coming. So, am i supposed to pray for accessibility? Is this some sort of meta lesson? Will Christopher Lloyd … Continue reading Angels In The Outfield: 30th Anniversary

In TV News, HBo used last nights house of The Dragon season finale to tease The last Of Us Season 2 with some available footage. It’s a slow news day. TV Shows Watched: A Good Girls Guide To Murder: EPS 5 and 6 (Netfli) with audio description, Batman: Caped Crusader: S1E7 and S1E8 (Amazon) With Audio Description, and Interview With A Vampiree: S2E3 (AMC Plus) No Audio Description. I have featured all three before, and I don’t have a featured show today. Interview With A Vampire desperately needs audio description. As a member of a few critics groups, I’m trying … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 08/04/24
Civil War
When I learned Alex garland was taking this bold topic on as a high profile A24 release, my interest was super high. I was initially worried how the film would be received. Politically, we are a mess right now, and heading into the films release, I was hesitant to sit in a theatre for this. But, reviews were mixed, and then I became even less likely. Now, at home, I can enjoy civil War, or I could, if it was good. Alex Garland managed to take on a hot button topic that has nothing to say. On one hand, there … Continue reading Civil War
Tyler Perry’s Divorce In The Black
It is almost a national pastime at this point to review a Tyler Perry movie that, shockingly, isn’t very good. One of the great advents of the streaming era, is that his schlocky nonsense is headed directly to various streamers. this is his second film this year, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he pushed out a third. So, what’s up with Divorce In The Black? Meagan Goode unironically plays a woman trying to make her abusive partner love her, until he’s just finally had enough, and decides he wants a divorce. He’s a loser in every frame he’s in, … Continue reading Tyler Perry’s Divorce In The Black

My news portion today is that WBD, the parent company behind niche streamer Boomerang, has decided to shutter the service and move its content to MAX. So, for people who were paying for both, congrats on saving money. And for people who didn’t have Boomerang, they had a lot of older cartoons on there, like Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo, The Flintstones, and others. It’ll be great for nostalgic adults and little kids. TV Shows Watched: A Good Girls Guide To Murder: S1E3 and S1E4 (Netflix) with audio description, The Goat: S1E? (Amazon) with audio description, and Manhattan: S1E6 (AMC … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 08/03/24
If
This has certainly been a weird year for imaginary friends. Between the creepy imaginary friend in imaginary, to a realistic imaginary friend in The imaginary, and now to If, which is an acronym for Imaginary Friend, where a girl (Kaley Fleming) explores her grief by finding lost imaginary friends and trying to reunite them with new or reunited owners. All three of these films were released in just a little over a three month span. What If If was the best? John Krasinski walked away from the Quiet Place prequel to direct this film, so it must be good. the … Continue reading If

In TV News, the next Presidential Debate will be on September 4th between Trump and Harris, which will air on FOX News. Unsurprisingly, former President Trump has declined the previously suggested ABC debate. It will probably be at 9PM EST, and run for 90 minutes like the previous debate. As far as the rules go, there’s no reason to believe this would match the devious debate rules. TV Shows Watched: A Good Girls Guide To Murder: S1E2 (Netflix) with audio description, Batman: Caped Crusader: S1E3 and S1E4 (Amazon) with audio description, Desperate Housewives: S2E10 (Hulu) no audio description, and today’s feature. … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 08/02/24

In the news, one woman rises as another falls. Nora O’Donnell has decided to end her tenure at CBS News, leading the way for new faces to report the nightly news to the fans of the FBI franchise. Also, Carrie Underwood is filling the void left by Katy Perry. Fans have long been asking for an alumni to join the panel, and it was rumored that some were in the mix when ABC was looking to restart the franchise. However, they didn’t go that way. Luke and Lionel will be heading into their 8th season as judges, putting them pretty … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 08/01/24
Marvel’s Hit Monkey: Season 2
I was shocked to find out that a second season of this dropped. i totally missed that amazing development, and decision to continue on with this odd little MArvel show. I went into Season 2, as a soft fan of the show, not necessarily foaming at the mouth, but excited. Measured, but excited. I remembered the general theme of the show, but I couldn’t remember a lot of specifics headed into Season 2. Monkey is back, and he’s looking for revenge. He has the ghost (?) of Bryce (Jason Sudekis) following him around, and he takes up with an assassin … Continue reading Marvel’s Hit Monkey: Season 2
Challengers
Is your seat wet? Do you feel hot and bothered? Perhaps someone who told you about Challengers was just in your presence. The overhyped tennis drama supposedly had audiences feeling randy when it was in theatres, and I’m glad I missed the orgy. At home, I was able to have my solo experience. Director Luca Guadagnino is a boundary pushing contemporary chasing that auteur status where his name on a film excites fans. he’s almost there, and I think if he was known for more than Call Me By your Name, he would be. Most people are less aware of … Continue reading Challengers

Kicking it off with some TV news. Peacock has abandoned their planned reboot of Battlestar Galactica, meaning all you have is the excellent last version of it to watch over and over. Life certainly is tough. TV Shows I Watched: In addition to today’s feature, I also watched Tim Bandits: S1E3 (Apple Plus) with audio description, Sunny: S1E5 (Apple Plus) with audio description, The Daily Show with Ronnie Chen: Tuesday’s Episode (Paramount Plus) with audio description, and Cheers: I don’t know what season, but I’m into Kirstie Alley’s run (Paramount Plus) No audio description. Podcasts (All Through Apple Podcasts, Listened … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 07/31/24

Kicking it off with some TV news, Disney Plus has cancelled Renegade Nell after one season. This streamer has a really really hard time creating shows that run multiple seasons, and an even harder one doing it without Marvel or Star Wars. This is disappointing, but expected in many ways. TV Shows Watched: Cobra Kai: S6E3 (Netflix) with audio description, The Traitors UK: S2E? (Peacock) No Audio Description, The Daily Show With Jon Stewart- Monday’s Episode (Paramount Plus) No Audio Description, Regular Show: S1E7 (MAX) No Audio Description, and All In The family: S5E19 (FreeVee) No Audio Description. Plus, today’s … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 07/30/24
Tarot
Holy Hell Batman! We have got ourselves a true blue contender for the worst film of the year. I say contender, because, *spoiler alert* it is the worst film of 2024 thus far. I do not like to give a film an F grade, because with all the artists working on set, it is like saying there’s no redeemable quality here. I’m suggesting your life will be more rewarding if you do not watch this film. Staring off into space for 90 minutes is more productive. This film is terrible, but it does have audio description. So, a win for … Continue reading Tarot

Interesting News? Tim Allen’s sitcom was picked up by ABC. Previously, he had entertained the idea of doing a Home Improvement revival, which was quickly shut down by Patricia Richardson, so this gives him another opportunity to have a long running sitcom. Remember, Last Man Standing did start on ABC, before being cancelled and moving to FOX. So, this is home base for him, and perhaps because Last Man Standing proved ABC’s brass wrong then, he’ll last longer the third time around. TV Shows I Watched: The Ark: S22E1 (Peacock) with audio description (a show destined to land in the … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 07/29/24
