Going In Blind: Good Boy

Cast: Written By: directed By: Release Year: 2025 Studio/Streamer: IFC/Shudder *This Movie Does Have An Audio Description Track, Which Despite Multiple Attempts, I Was Unable To Secure An Accessible screener* In many ways, this is a hopeful placeholder. I’m very much open to watching an accessible screener copy of this film, and I will be on the lookout for a copy when it comes to VOD later this month. However, because it is heading apparently straight to AMC Plus/Shudder, I’m not sure if there will be a copy available post-theatrical with a audio description since AMC Plus rarely uses the … Continue reading Going In Blind: Good Boy

Baghead

I do love a reminder every once in a while that there are still functional companies that ignore accessibility. one of those, AMC Plus, is the home to Shudder and IFC Films, two entities that send originals to theatres with audio description, VOD services, and often later to Hulu. yet, with all of that, AMC Plus dodges the hell out of being accessible as a streaming service. Why? Do you honestly and truthfully believe that if the streaming wars lead to the deaths of streamers, like most recently Noggin, that the ones without accessibility will rise to the top? Today’s … Continue reading Baghead

The Small Screen Diaries- 02/13/24

Happy Valentine’s Day! For this Valentine’s I got you some TV News to start your day. Apple has renewed Invasion for a 3rd season, while Netflix has picked up Survival Of The Thickest for a second season. The latter of the two took way too long, and must have come down to a budgeting wire. I am shockingly still with Boy Swallows The Universe (Netflix), which is actually better once you get past the pilot. Still, it’s a very odd show, but the 4th episode continues with the boys trying to adapt to living with their estranged alcoholic father, wanting … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/13/24

The Small Screen Diaries- 02/12/24

Welcome back Jon Stewart, who has returned to The Daily Show once a week through at least the election. Also, Katy Perry is making this her last season of American Idol. Dear Producers, *PLEASE* get an alumni. It is so awkward that two of them have been on The Voice, but not American Idol. It’s time to bring home Kelly, Carrie, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Jordon Sparks, or any of the myriad of female artists whose career has been launched by this show. Honestly, I wish the whole panel was alumni. And with that, I knocked out another episode of My … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/12/24

Steel Magnolias

Again, living out my Oscar shame. Though, Steel Magnolias surprisingly was not nominated for as many Oscars as I would have assumed. Thanks to AMC Plus, I was able to watch this without the accessibility I need. I think about the supposed streaming wars, and the inevitable collapse of streamers, and I kind of wonder if the ones that are doing things like ignoring accessibility features will survive. Food for thought. But, likely your local theatre will do Steel Magnolias at some point, so you might have to cross that bridge of getting audio description in live theatre. This is … Continue reading Steel Magnolias

Birth/Rebirth

the good news is that you can find this title with audio description. the bad news, is despite this being a Shudder release, and on AMC Plus, you won’t find it there. If I was going to wait this long to see Birth/Rebirth, I decided I’d rent the damn thing and make sure I got the audio description. It helps that I’m a voting member for the Spirit Awards and this is in consideration. However, I didn’t use the non-audio described screener offered to me. I knew too many people who kept swearing this was the best, or one of, … Continue reading Birth/Rebirth

Lakota Nation vs United States

I really do wish that AMC Plus would consider hosting all of the existing audio description, especially for its own AMC, IFC, and Shuddder titles. It actively makes them look like they are trying to dismiss the accessibility needs of a disenfranchised population. Hey, look, it’s a documentary about a disenfranchised population. What are the odds? I watched this without audio description, and while I’m sure this could have been made better, this is a pretty straight forward exploration of how we have continuously screwed over the indigenous populations of this country, especially the titular Lakota Nation. This has quite … Continue reading Lakota Nation vs United States

It’s A Wonderful Knife

Where I Watched It: AMC Plus English Audio Description?: No Cast: Jane Widdop, Joel McHale, Justin Long, Jess McCloud, Katherine Isabelle, Aiden Howard, and Erin Boyce. Written By: Michael Kennedy Directed By: Tyler MacIntyre Considering last year Violent Night was a bit of a riff on home Alone, it makes sense that another Christmas classic would be up for revamping. In case you can’t put two and two together, it’s A Wonderful Knife is very similar to It’s A Wonderful Life. Winnie is your average teenager, hanging out with her teenage friends. Her dad works closely with a very motivated … Continue reading It’s A Wonderful Knife

The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/13/23

Yesterday was the nominations for the Critics Choice Film section, and my quick hot take is: they are more concerned with being a bellwether for predicting the Oscar’s that they aren’t doing anything interesting anymore. I think their choices are solid, and mostly what everyone is talking about, with very few exceptions. It’s just that I’ve spent the whole year listening to critics all over the internet talk about their undying love of Past Lives, and how much they want to give Selene Song an Oscar nomination in director, or how is’t a shame that Tao Yoo and John Meggaro … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/13/23
