One Of Them Days

I’m sure there’s at least one person bemoaning how we keep recycling ideas or gender flipping, but often the problem isn’t either of those things. It is a lack of perspective that kills a movie. Whether you gender flip, remake, adapt, or straight up ripoff a film and slap a new name on it (Transmorphers), if you don’t know why you are doing it, there’s no point. One Of Them Days is one of those films that beats back against the odds. Not only is it fresh, but it clearly owes a lot to a very popular film, and this also … Continue reading One Of Them Days

Dog Man

Dreamworks Animation has laid quite a groundwork for itself. There are so many of their projects that have gravitated into my favorites list, including the entire How To Train Your Dragon trilogy, Shrek, Shrek 2, The Prince Of Egypt, Kung Fu Panda, Rise Of The Guardians, and even Mr. Peabody and Sherman. After adding one more last year with the excellent The Wild Robot, their next project could have built on the momentum. Well, their next project is Dog Man. I immediately need to admit I’m not familiar with the source material at all, so it felt a little like … Continue reading Dog Man

Harold And The Purple Crayon

Harold And The Purple Crayon- I’m Drawing The Conclusion This Film Is Underrated Quick Take: Not the most obvious choice for a film adaptation, but I liked it. It takes Harold out of the book and sends him on a journey to find his creator (the author of the book), along with his friends from the book, and his purple crayon. It smartly casts Zachary Levi, who is great at playing a manchild, and puts him opposite Zooey Deschanel, who is excellent at dealing with manchildren. Like Elf, which she starred in, she’s the voice of reason as Harold brings … Continue reading Harold And The Purple Crayon

Dashing Through The Snow

Where I Watched It: Disney Plus English Audio Description?: Yes Cast: Ludacris, Lil Rel Howery, Madison Skye Vadium, Tiana Paris, and Oscar Nunez. Written By: Scott Rosenberg Directed By: Tim Story I love a good streaming surprise that feels like it had a real budget. The feeling that Disney could have sent this to theatres is what sets this apart from a lot of other cheaper Christmas fare. They did go out and get Tim Story to direct, who earlier this year did get his film The blackening into theatres. I’m also a big fan of representation, and I’ll be … Continue reading Dashing Through The Snow

The Mill

Where I Watched it: Hulu English Audio Description?: Yes The Mill is one of those films you really should go into with as little actual knowledge of the film as possible. So, carefully sidestepping through this, I’ll offer you some reasons to check this out. The first has to be Lil Rel Howrey, who has spent the majority of his career pumping up comedic performances, but here is expected to play a relatable Everyman in what could be described as a pressure cooker thriller. There is no backstory given in The Mill, but you just are told what the script … Continue reading The Mill

Vacation Friends 2

Where I Watched it: Hulu English Audio Description?: Yes I know when I watched the first Vacation Friends i should have assumed they would make a sequel. After all, there are three hangover movies, but then again, only one Girls Trip. Sometimes, restraint is practiced, and a sequel does not occur. I didn’t hate the first Vacation Friends. I’d put it about on par with the Hangover sequels. It had its moments. This sequel? It’s terrible. The film almost works. It promises to put our two odd couples back together for a vacation, but then it introduces Steve Buscemi, and … Continue reading Vacation Friends 2
