The Small Screen Diaries- 03/01/24

Timing is everything. Netflix announced the cancellation of The Brothers Sun right after I finished the final episode of the season. I liked the show, and I would have come back for a second season, but I could say that about a number of shows Netflix sends into the void every year. I’m not angry enough to tweet them, or X them. I don’t know why Elon had to go and make that weird. I want to send tweets, not whatever the hell we call it now. But, Michelle Yeoh’s Netflix show is short lived. I will testify that Halo … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 03/01/24

Man, i hope the SAG awards stay on Netflix. no commercials. Say anything you want. Fantastic. The predictable awards were predictable, and the other trophies painted a picture of the Actor and Actress race. Cillian Murphy has now won both the BAFTA and SAG, defeating Paul Giamatti at both. I cannot shake the feeling that Giamatti is winning for The Holdovers. It may just be because of how much I adore Paul, but I love both films and performances. On the actress side, Lily Gladstone closed the gap between her and Emma Stone by winning the SAG Actress trophy, while … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/24/24

I’m now only one episode away from learning which of the three contestants I don’t care about wins Squid Game: The Challenge (Netflix). Of course, I could just look it up, since this was decided a while ago, but I don’t binge shows. I like my cliffhangers. I’m glad Ashley didn’t make the final 3, since she couldn’t see the irony in someone not following with a selfless group act. But, I’m also not sure I want Maya to win. I’m not sure I want any of these three to win, because this show has been more interested in getting … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/16/24

HUGE TV news that was like a stake to my heart. This upcoming season of What We do In The Shadows will be its last. However, My Life With The Walter Boys (which is so totally on brand for Netflix) has already been renewed for a second season. 1) Everything Now (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Unknown Another trigger warning, and this episode is great for expanding Mia’s brother. He has feelings too, and he’s barely had anything to do. Well, he’s greatly expanded after this episode. Sometimes, I forgot she had a brother. Episode Grade: B+ 2) Monarch … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/19/23

Yesterday was the nominations for the Critics Choice Film section, and my quick hot take is: they are more concerned with being a bellwether for predicting the Oscar’s that they aren’t doing anything interesting anymore. I think their choices are solid, and mostly what everyone is talking about, with very few exceptions. It’s just that I’ve spent the whole year listening to critics all over the internet talk about their undying love of Past Lives, and how much they want to give Selene Song an Oscar nomination in director, or how is’t a shame that Tao Yoo and John Meggaro … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/13/23

I’m not feeling the Pedro Pascal casting as Reed Richards, only because I was really hoping for John Krasinski.I know Pascal is hot right now, with The Last Of Us and The Mandalorian, so it makes sense. but Emily Blunt could have played Invisible Girl, and we know Krasinski can write/direct. Just saying. 1) Shelter (Amazon) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet Renewed Well, that was a doozie of a finale. I think this show was always all over the place, until it actually started trying to tie everything together. I’ve yet to see a Harlan show make a … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/16/23

Nothing too big in the TV world. The CW confirmed what we already assumed, that this is the final season of The CW… I mean… Superman and Lois. It marks the final show to be cancelled in the once dominant DC Arrowverse that started with the Stephen Amell led series, and birthed spinoffs The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Superman and Lois, and arguably also Stargirl and Swamp Thing, though those were originally created for DC’s streaming service. The new CW seems less interested in making their own programming, and instead repurposing Canadian, British, and Australian shows. 9) … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/02/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/27/23

The writers struck for minimums in writers rooms, and I guess The CW’s All American Homecoming and Superman and Lois had rooms above the new increased minimum, so they are firing some to reduce costs and shrinking the writers rooms. Let’s be honest, The CW is on life support in its current state. 9) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I gotta give Raylon’s dad props. When i first met Arlo in Season 1, I never expected to see him still kicking around in Season 4, but here he is. Mainly, people still want to take down Boyd, … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/27/23

Yesterday was a mother of a whirlwind. First, i did my happy dance when i saw that Amazon officially renewed Gen-V for a second season. Then, our world crashed down, as the absolutely brilliant The Problem With jon Stewart was cancelled at Apple Plus over “creative differences”. What? Maybe I should cancel Apple Plus and tel them it’s over creative differences. “I’ve decided to go another way.” Someone else had better pick up Jon Stewart ASAP. 8) 8) Dreaming Whilst Black (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Unknown In the second episode, the laughs come mostly from culturally significant … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/19/23

Friday The 13th was a very unlucky day for one show. Apple pulled the plug on The After Party after two seasons. I’m not really sure why. It always baffles me when a show I see having a strong social media presence among the people in my feed gets cancelled, because it seems so rare that they ever bother to post about shows. but, while the new season was running, I had friends who were really into it. And I can’t say that for most of Apple plus’s programming (even if I’m a fan). 12) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/13/23

I don’t know how I missed the drama, but Starz apparently cancelled Heels, and almost immediately removed the show from its service. There was a notable campaign on Twitter to shame Starz for cancelling the series. honestly, with Outlander in its final season, if they don’t start figuring out their programming, they’ll be the Power network, and it’ll be hard to get people attracted to new shows who aren’t watching Power spinoffs. 11) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended People get shot at in this episode, and it’s tough to figure out who and when, since there’s no … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/06/23

No major TV news yesterday that i caught, except that Showtime has already removed all episodes of the L Word: Generation Q from their service. Hope you weren’t behind. I am being featured tonight in a discussion with some audio description heavy hitters that I feel blessed to be a part of. The conversation is on LinkedIn. I finally had to join LinkedIn for this. hah. 7) Shadow and Bone (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes This was just a terribly competitive day. It’s not that I dislike this show, even though it sits at 7th, but rather that it ranks … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 04/04/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 03/14/23

I’m not sure I have a profound revelation about television today other than that I did finally check out one of those very few licensed films Apple Plus hosts for a short term, only to find out it did not have audio description. For shame. 6) 1923 (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes This show is a bit all over the place sometimes, proving that perhaps Taylor Sheridan has too many fires in the oven. The focus was back on the Duttons, and the strongest part of this episode was Jake (Harrison Ford) actually having something to do other than … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 03/14/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 02/28/23

Definitely one of those days where my personal life took a chunk out of the day. But, I did watch a lot of half hour shows to inflate my numbers. So how does this random assortment of TV shows rank up against each other? 6) Velma (HBO MAX) English Audio description?: Yes It was just a pretty solid day, and Velma loses out once more. This was the episode where the band kids turn feral when not fed junk food. I have no idea what the writers were shooting for with that joke. Daphne is also learning more about her … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 02/28/23

The Too Much TV Roundup: October 11th

Got another decent sized list put together here. So, let’s see who rose to the top. The answer could be very surprising. Very. Very. You know what? I’m even going to flip it around, and do it in reverse order and countdown. Tell me if you enjoy the suspense of it all a little bit more. 7) The Equalizer (CBS/Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: Oddly, no. Strangely enough, this episode did not have audio description. The season opener did, and most episodes, if not all, have had reliable audio description. And, it’s been enough time to upload it, as I … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup: October 11th
