Definitely one of those days where my personal life took a chunk out of the day. But, I did watch a lot of half hour shows to inflate my numbers. So how does this random assortment of TV shows rank up against each other?
6) Velma (HBO MAX)
English Audio description?: Yes
It was just a pretty solid day, and Velma loses out once more. This was the episode where the band kids turn feral when not fed junk food. I have no idea what the writers were shooting for with that joke. Daphne is also learning more about her past, and I am loving this new version of Fred. He’s funnier as an idiot trying to impress Velma, than how he started the series.
Episode Grade: B
5) You (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
I can’t help but shake that I already know who the killer is. I felt that way after the first episode, and I feel that way now after the second. Nothing changed my mind. I think in a great whodunit, either no one seems obvious, or everyone does. But You is doing a shitty job of pointing fingers right now. HOWEVER, if they can get their shit together, I much prefer this format to yet another season where joe obsesses over a girl only to kill her. I’d much rather see him use his knowledge to try and find the other killer for a change.
Episode Grade: B+
4) The Good Doctor (ABC/Hulu)
English Audio Description?: Yes
It was a lovely flight, with a bump or two, and a bit of a hard landing. Yes, the episode was crafted well by Will Yun Lee, the actor who plays Dr. Park, but a couple of missteps caused me to rank this lower. First, turning Glassman into an overprotective ninny for an episode was silly. Dude is locking toilet seats and the baby hasn’t even been born. Come on now. No one is that insane. The other thing was, I actually appreciated Jordan’s initial storyline about feeling like she didn’t need to be the black Lorax and speak to a bunch of black kids about how great it is to be a black doctor. Why is it her responsibility? While the show does address the low amount of black doctors, a real problem that we need to address, essentially this episode ended up shaming jordan and her choice so she ends up doing it anyway. I was impressed by the initial stance taken, that just because a person is something doesn’t mean they consistently need to be the voice, or representative for that thing. Then, they just made her regret that decision. Frustrating indeed.

3) American Auto (NBC/Peacock)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Jonah from Superstore guest stars as a man trying to launch a company that is trying to use sand to generate electricity. I love how the episode started off with all of the smart characters clearly realizing how dumb this is, and then slowly finding ways of being convinced. Good stuff.

2) The Legend Of Vox Machina (Amazon)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Well, I got to learn a lot more about Kielev and where she came from, as an attack on her people forces the gang to make a little detour as there is a rift open, and she has to find the power within her to stop the forces. It was actually a great episode, and Grog needs to figure out that his sword is problematic as it keeps pulling this Audrey 2 thing and demanding Grog “feed it”.

1) Quantum Leap (NBC/Peacock)
English Audio Description?: Yes
I think this one ends up on top, but I’m also not maxing any episode out at an A grade. A lot of them were really good, just not at the top level for me. This was the best of the bunch, as it allowed Ben some catharsis in being able to say things to a mother figure that he never got to say to his own mother. But, the actress playing Karen? Did she get cast based on a favor? Like, holy bad acting Batman. I don’t know who you are, and perhaps you were just miscast, but you are definitely NOT that role.
