Master Gardner

Where I Watched it: Hulu English Audio Description?: No Cast: Joel Edgerton, Sigourney Weaver, Quintessa Swindell, and Esai Morales Written and Directed By: Paul Schrader I’d love to have more thoughts about this film, but sadly, there’s no audio description. It’s a new dawn, and a new day, and I’m feeling spicy. Yes, I sat all the way through the film. I’ve also sat through Paul Schrader films before, and he’s very much a director that does things through symbolism. His films doen’t just translate through written word. For example, First Reformed plays a lot with religious symbolism as the … Continue reading Master Gardner

So AMPTPA walked away from SAG talks all pissy, because SAG didn’t make the deal. look, the studios had a lot of way more specific deals to iron out with SAG than the WGA and DGA, and saying you offered them the same deal is impossible. Did you commit to having hairstylists on set who are able to properly style ethnic hair? Did you guarantee the safety of extras on set? Did you agree to stop trying to scan everyone and stop owning their likeness in perpetuity? I bet if these negotiations were available for regular folk to watch, AMPTPA … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/11/23

Tubi really does have some deep cuts in terms of shows they have that are no longer on the air. Check out what I found in the rankings below. 8) Name That Tune (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Not Yet Renewed Megan Hilty! That’s really all I needed. I wish the show skewed in her favor, and she had to guess something like Secondhand White Baby Grand from Smash. It didn’t happen. Episode Grade: B 7) 911 (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Moved To ABC This episode, S4E2, featured a catastrophe that kinda needed audio description, but once … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/04/23

Well, the WGA has recommended that writers end the strike officially, so things will be written again. I don’t expect to see the fruition of this until next year, except in talk shows, but it happened. Also, I’m not ranking Dancing With The Stars, but I wish the show had audio description like NBC’s The Voice now does. I sat through the first couple couples and then gave up. 10) The Ren and Stimpy Show (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I’m mostly doing this for my own personal nostalgic trip, but I have to acknowledge that the … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/26/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/19/23

No big TV news, so I’ll use my intro spot to announce that Lily Gladstone, the one-time front runner for Best Supporting Actress, has now flipped and decided to run for Lead Actress. We now call this “Pulling a Michelle Williams.” Hopefully she dominates the movie, because she is now competing in films where the lead Actress is in a film clearly about them. 10) Alias (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I’m still saying that this show is too action oriented to not have audio description. However, the second episode did have more dialogue. And, if you … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/19/23

Here’s the thing I don’t get. The Drew Barrymore show is being picketed, because Drew decided to go back to work, but Whoopi is on the View, and obviously a member of SAG since she’s still acting. So, why is Whoopi allowed to work on a talk show but Drew is not? Make it make sense. 8) Designing Women (ABC) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended Someone really needs the Suzanne special touch when it comes to some beauty tips, or styling tips, but Delta Burke isn’t so sure she wants to give away trade secrets. Episode Grade: C+ 7) … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/12/23

Avatar: The Way Of Water

Where I Watched it: Disney Plus English Audio Description provided By: Deluxe Narrated By William michael Redmond I swear these films need a companion piece for the blind community that describes Pandora in extreme detail. The reason being is that the world is all make believe. There’s really nothing based in reality here, except for the concept of humans. The tech used in the film is futuristic, the ships are a pipe dream, and the Na’vi are living in a world far removed from our own. While the audio description really is trying to always mention as much of it … Continue reading Avatar: The Way Of Water

Avatar

Where I Watched it: Disney plus English Audio Description provided By: Deluxe I decided to take a second trip to Pandora since I’m convinced that The Way Of Water must be coming to Disney plus at some point. it’s already been on VOD and available for home rental and purchase for a while now. Unless they are planning a rerelease this summer (which is totally possible, since Avatar had one), I don’t see why not. I’ve always kinda of made fun of this film for drawing so many comparisons to other films, like Ferngully and Pocahontas, both that used a … Continue reading Avatar

Call Jane

Where I Watched it: iTunes English Audio Description?: No This year, I was treated to a fantastic documentary that showed me a part of history I was unfamiliar with. That documentary is The Janes. So, I was interested in a fictional story based around the same concept, even if it didn’t have audio description. The cast here is great, so maybe that all will be enough. And for the most part, it was as good as it could be without audio description. The film centers around a woman who really isn’t necessarily looking to get an abortion until she’s told … Continue reading Call Jane
