Christy

I’ve been watching and reviewing a few things recently based on people I had no idea existed. I’m really starting to question my pop culture knowledge, but is knowing a roster of female boxers really pop culture? Should I have known who Christy Martin was? If Stop The Insanity is a cautionary tale on contract law, Christy is a cautionary tale for homophobic parents who just keep hoping their lesbian daughters will marry a man. Bee careful what you wish for. Christy is a biopic about one of the most successful female boxers, who also struggled with her sexuality, and … Continue reading Christy

The Small Screen Diaries: The Weekly Rankings

Once again I’m running down the sixty shows on my broad watchlist. Joining the list this week, which was fairly slow for new shows, are The Sandman (Netflix), All Of Us Are Dead (Netflix), The Office (Peacock), Such Brave Girls (Hulu), Nautilus (AMC Plus), Dexter (Paramount Plus), and Prison Break (Netflix). I wrapped some shows, and anything that would rank outside the top 60 dies. WINNER: Squid Game (Netflix) with audio description- I knew I was going to lose my favorites. After the tragic uprising didn’t work last season, it meant playing out Squid Game till the end. I’m only … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: The Weekly Rankings

Echo Valley

I know these streamers don’t think about patterns, but over the last couple of years, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed some June films dropping on Apple Plus. This was the window for Cha Cha Real Smooth, and also for Fancy Dance. If you haven’t seen either of those, I highly recommend. Echo Valley seems more in tune to the bumps along the way Apple struggled with last year, putting out the failed Oscar bait Blitz, the critically derided Argylle, and the forgettable The Instigators. they have a lot riding on their Brad Pitt/Joseph Kosinski collaboration F1, so echo Valley is more of … Continue reading Echo Valley

Immaculate

I’m excited for the possibilities of a career by Sydney Sweeney. Plenty of actresses have started off with a career launching moment, only to be stuck in some truly forgettable films. I feel bad for Sweeney here because she so deeply believed in this film. She joined as a producer, because originally she wasn’t considered for the lead role, and then finally got her dream role. And her dream role was this? Immaculate treads no new territory. I truly mean, when I heard the title, I predicted this movie almost perfectly. I feel like I should have writing credit. Aside … Continue reading Immaculate

Madame Webb

the internet certainly has an opinion on this film. It’s like a grand offense that occurred, the cinematic equivalent of slapping someone’s mother. But is it really? If you want to comb back through, you’ll see that I didn’t quite buy the doom and gloom of Morbius, if for no other reason than it was the most normal performance Jared Leto has ever given. But, Madame Webb also has moments where it clearly could have been at least a decent film. So, let’s break down the hate, and see if it’s warranted. but first, the audio description. Laura post and … Continue reading Madame Webb

Reality

Where I Watched It: MAX English Audio Description provided By: point360 Narrated By: Tanzi Alexander Reality is boring. That’s why we choose escapism whenever we can, because reality can be very monotonous. It’s why there isn’t a real-time DMV movie. Just a guy waiting for his number to be called so he can get his Driver’s License renewed. We instead read books, that even when they are non-fiction, still seem more interesting than our daily lives, and watch television and movies that take us anywhere but here. Reality is not just the name of a character, but a promise that … Continue reading Reality
