We Have Always Lived In The Castle

Sometimes I still review a film without audio description. This popped up on Hulu, and Hulu and IMDB can’t seem to agree on when this was released. It might qualify as 2024, but probably not. This is a weird little thriller about two sisters, played by Alexandra Daddario and Taissa Farmiga, who lose their father and live in a time when women need men to guide them. They have an uncle (Crispin Glover) who is certifiable, but seems like a nice guy, and then in comes a cousin (Sebastian Stan) who may have ulterior motives. Reasons for audio description: 1) … Continue reading We Have Always Lived In The Castle

As promised, I tackled Echo (Disney Plus), but just the first episode. I’m not a huge fan of the binge watch. I like to savor my shows, especially ones with only 5 episodes, and the next Marvel show is quite far off. I thought it was a strong start, but it didn’t break into the top echelon of Marvel shows for me, which really no one has ever topped WandaVision. Some critics have hailed it as what Marvel needs right now, and I say it could ahve been, if they had let Echo stand on her own in the pilot, … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 01/10/23

The Small Screen Diaries- 01/02/2024

Slowly moving into 2024, I’m getting closer and closer to finishing some series. One of those I’m close on is Fellow Travelers (Paramount Plus with Showtime), the excellent drama starring Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey as two men inexplicably forever linked through the passage of time. The latest episode I watched dealt with the murder of Harvey Milk, and that someone tried to blame their mental state on Twinkies. The jury actually had to deliberate for more than 5 minutes on that one, which highlights the absurdity of the period. But, Bomer was excellent as it turned out he was … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 01/02/2024

Apparently Percy Jackson is doing solid numbers for Disney. Over 13M in the first week. Maybe the series will survive. 1) Bodies (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited I may not always know what is going on, but as the series moves forward the series has intrigued me a lot. By episode 5, things are really starting to come together, and you can see characters understand what is going on. Episode Grade: B+ 2) Monarch (Apple Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Narrated By: Jedidiah Barton Status: Unknown Our characters find themselves really trapped in the freezing tundra being chased … Continue reading The Too Much Tv Roundup- 12/26/23

HUGE TV news that was like a stake to my heart. This upcoming season of What We do In The Shadows will be its last. However, My Life With The Walter Boys (which is so totally on brand for Netflix) has already been renewed for a second season. 1) Everything Now (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Unknown Another trigger warning, and this episode is great for expanding Mia’s brother. He has feelings too, and he’s barely had anything to do. Well, he’s greatly expanded after this episode. Sometimes, I forgot she had a brother. Episode Grade: B+ 2) Monarch … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/19/23

Woke up to the tributes pouring in for Andre Braugher, who passed away at the age of just 61. He was such a brilliant actor, who could handle drama and comedy. I’m not going to lie and talk about how his performance on Homicide changed my life. I was young, and I never watched Homicide (or NYPD Blue for that matter). I think my favorite performance of his is as the Captain on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, as the seemingly normal one, who as you continued on with the series learned more and more about how eclectic he really was to match … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/12/23

The Nun 2

Where I Watched It: MAX English Audio Description provided By: Deluxe Narrated By: William Michael Redman Welcome to the sequel to the prequel which is a spinoff of a character featured in the sequel to The Conjuring. And they say Hollywood has run out of ideas. Pish posh. After the riveting terror of the first Nun film, I can understand why we are continuing with Taissa Farmiga, despite that Demian Bichir really did tremendous work in the first film. She’s likely asking for less money. And, with the money that they saved, they can offer a spot to Storm Reid, … Continue reading The Nun 2

Yesterday, we lost a former First Lady with Roslyn Carter, who made it to 96. We also lost an actor I had forgotten could still be alive, Joss Ackland, who made for a mean villain in in the Lethal Weapon franchise, but also appeared in 90’s Disney films including A Kid In King Arthur’s Court and the Mighty Ducks films. He looked so old even then, that I never would have imagined he made it to 2023. RIP to both. 1) Get Gotti (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited A docuseries chronicling how they finally nailed mafia boss John … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/19/23

The Nun

Where I Watched it: MAX English Audio Description?: Yes For some reason, MAX hosts the entire Conjuring universe with audio description except Annabelle, and this doesn’t seem to strike them as odd? That meant when a sequel to The nun was scheduled to drop, i was able to check out the first film, which starred Demian Bichir and Taissa Farmiga. Now, that first name is deeply underrated in Hollywood. I know this franchise becomes all about farmiga’s novitiate and it’s such a cool juxtaposition because her big sister is the lead in The Conjuring films, but bichir is great in … Continue reading The Nun

Did you watch any programming themed for Veteran’s Day yesterday? Or, were you like me, just catching up? 11) Hey Dude (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: no Status: Ended A cringeworthy episode where Ted is tasked with monitoring water usage, and asks his Native American friend Danny if he can do a rain dance. When Danny says he doesn’t know how, Ted says it’s easy and just does one. Later, this 80’s kids comedy does make a point of mentioning that this is offensive, but it also spends more time invested on Danny trying to figure out how to do … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/11/23

In A Valley Of Violence

Where I Watched it: Netflix English Audio Description Provided By: Nicol Sansorella One of those random out of nowhere reviews. Honestly, I likely would have continued to pass up on this film until i noticed that it was directed by Ti West. I wanted to see what he had in the tank when not making a straight up horror film. The idea that West was making a revenge western was almost as intriguing as that time Eli Roth made the family friendly The house With A Clock In It’s Walls. When a director becomes synonymous with a specific genre, it … Continue reading In A Valley Of Violence
