Stalker

Starring: Dylan McDermott, Maggie Q

ZOMG. VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN. ZOMG.

Said no one for the past fifteen years of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.

This doesn’t glorify violence against women, unless you’re a fucking idiot. This is a show about people who investigate, and arrest people who perpetuate violence against women. At the end of this episode, the people who were violent against women were either arrested or dead. They weren’t thrown a surprise party with some chocolate cake, or given a parade.

That being said, this plot didn’t throw me. It thought there was a curveball by having TWO stalkers, but I already figured out that the two of them were probably working together. Hopefully future episodes won’t be so easy to figure out.

I do like the dynamics of McDermott and Q. I like how Q is badass and will do anything to stop a stalker. I like how McDermott himself has stalker tendencies, and is an asshat, and counterbalances Q. If McDermott was a shining knight, I don’t think this series would work. I think the fact that he himself is a little stalkerish is what makes this series work. It’s like Dexter, when the serial killer is tracking serial killers. Here, the stalker is tracking the stalkers.

It was a decent setup, but if there are other series regulars besides McDermott and Q, they need more screentime ASAP. I’m down for a few more episodes before I pass final judgement on a season pass.
