My Oscar Predictions

I’ve never gotten them all right. I think my best year, I was still off by four categories. That’s the closest I can remember coming to getting a full sweep. I like to take risks, and sometimes they are the wrong risks. I’m live blogging the Oscars tonight for mjsbigblog.com, so if you want to join in the festivities there, the more the merrier!

BEST PICTURE: The Revenant
I think The Big Short could take this. I really do. I’m going to assume it got one less vote, and The Revenant pulls out a victory. I’m hoping I don’t eat my hat.

BEST DIRECTOR: George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road)
I’m acknowledging that Innaritu might win this, but I think there isn’t as much push for him to since he just won last year. I’m banking that Miller steals this award, and we have one of the rare exceptions where the film and director don’t match up.

BEST ACTOR: Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant)
I’ve read testimonials from Oscar voters that hated The Revenant, and still voted for DiCaprio because his performance is that good.

BEST ACTRESS: Brie Larson (Room)
It’s in the bag.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Sylvester Stallone (Creed)
Some people believe he’s just playing himself, but he’s really just been Rocky his entire life. I think he’ll get enough votes to win.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl)
The most wide open of the acting categories. It could go to anyone, but I think Vikander has earned a lot of support this year, and Oscar likes to give awards to “the next big thing”.
