On Labor Day, I laboriously watched television for you. Here’s some thoughts i acquired.
1) House Of The Dragon (HBo/ HBo MAX)
English Audio Description?: Yes
This Game Of Thrones prequel continues to impress me with its world building, which is hard enough, while also making small leaps forward in time. So, each episode is connected, but only by a thread as significant time has passed between episodes. Love him or hate him, Damon had a moment this episode. And the GOT lords seemed to be in his favor, although… that’s a lot of arrows.
Episode Grade: A
2) Trying (Apple Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Episode 4 not only explores the continuing journey of these characters newfound parenthood, but it also put our parents front and center when someone in their life turns out to be pregnant on an accidental whim, after they spend two seasons “Trying”, and finally needing to come to terms with the fact that getting pregnant wasn’t in their cards. Bringing up that past, really helped Trying stay as one of the best shows on TV.
3) Love Victor (Hulu/Disney Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
In the Gay Awards, once again, Victor becomes the least interesting character even though this episode is very much about him and his upcoming bravery award. Andrew gave up a football game to fly with Mia to see her new brother, and he’s 100% all in on Mia, but it’s hinted that Mia might not be. Don’t fuck this up, guys. you don’t have another season to fix this. Meanwhile, I’m still supposed to care about Nick, when Benji is still going through so much stuff he’s now considering being shipped off because he can’t watch Victor and nick make out. Then we’ve got Raheem, who almost stole the show with his dressing down of those bullies, if it wasn’t for the face that Lake and her Oregon bound girlfriend broke up, and Felix, dealing with his own break up sees that his mom just got dumped, so buries his emotions again, in favor of taking care of her. But when she realizes this, she came through. Love Victor? I’m going to miss this ensemble a lot more.
Episode Grade: A-
4) The lake (Amazon)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Justin thinks he might be able to compromise with his sister, which is obviously impossible, as she feeds him milk knowing he’s lactose intolerant. Then, our favorite related love interests found a way to not be so interested in each other.
Final Grade: A-
5) The Patient (Hulu)
English Audio Description?: No
no audio description. A hulu original. Fuck you hulu. That’s my review. I like Steve carell, but I’m about done with this shit.
Episode Grade: B
6) Evil (Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
After a stronger episode that didn’t end well for a pregnant mother, things slowed down in some aspects, and still went nuts in others. Either way, i didn’t like this money centric episode as much as the last two.
Episode Grade: B-
7) Man Vs Bee (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
If this show wasn’t so damn short every episode, I would have quit it by now. You can’t appreciate Rowan Atkinson this way, and the show is kinda stupid anyway.
Episode Grade: C+
