The Dentist thwarted some of my TV time, so my list of accomplishments is quite low. Or, at least lower than I had expected.
6) The English (Amazon)
English Audio Description?: Yes
This is a show that started off fierce, and had that great back and forth in the pilot between Emily Blunt and Ciaran hines. By the 6th episode, I wanted her to go home. I love how this became a life lesson about Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show, which I would not have guessed from the first episode. But, passing around that damn bird skull was funnier than it was poignant. I really wanted the last guy to look at Emily Blunt and just say “I don’t want this shit!”, but I know it’s symbolic… but… a bird skull? Anyway, I’ll echo what I said last week, this would have made a great movie. But 6 hours? No.

5) Inside Amy Schumer (Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
I can’t even remember the specific condition the opening sketch was supposed to treat, but it just went on too long. Sorry.

4) Name That Tune (FOX)
English Audio Description?: Yes
I think for those first two guys, they asked them “what music do you listen to?”, and it wasn’t mainstream, and they went for it anyway. I’ve never heard so many unrecognizable songs in one segment, until the final round. The other half was back to normal.

3) The Rookie Feds (ABC/Hulu)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Where did this daughter come from? How long has she been there? Did they slip her in somewhere else? Anyway, somehow, this was the least annoying version of Simone, and her “I was a counselor so I have a particular set of skills” shtick was dialed way back. If we can keep this dynamic, we might have the possibility of this show surviving.
Episode Grade: B
2) Celebrity Jeopardy (aBC/Hulu)
English Audio Description?: No
The semi-finals brought together Brendan Hunt, Patton Oswalt, and Michael Cera. Ultimately, the one I wanted to win going in did actually win, but only because they got final Jeopardy right. The all male semi-final leading to the all male finale should be riveting.
Episode Grade: B+
1) Jack Ryan (Amazon)
English Audio Description?: yes
This is eerily close to our current situation in Ukraine, with some behind the scenes machinations happening that explain how this is a powder keg likely waiting to happen. The first episode of the season was action packed, and the secod episode was solid as well. I really hope the Charlotte character (pretty sure that’s her name) gets her comeuppance when we know that Jack is inevitably proven right, and her plan to burn him blows back in her face.
