In TV News, and if you followed my recaps, you know how I feel. Disney Plus axed National Treasure. While there were some decent cast members, this show was an absolute mess. I’m not the least bit surprised. And how hard is it to get Just Fucking Bartha to be a series regular? What the hell is he doing right now?
6) 6) Top Chef (Peacock)
English Audio Description?: No
A pretty strong day for TV shows, but I’d really love it if they would stop trying to get me to watch Last Chance Kitchen. not having an elimination because the bottom two have to duke it out in last chance kitchen is just baiting me into watching that program, which won’t work.
Episode Grade: B
5) Agent Elvis (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
This is turning out to be pretty solid. Matthew McConaughey is a perfect Elvis, and the jokes about howard Hughes are solid. Also, having Jason Mantazoukas voice an unhinged Howard Hughes was the best choice.
Episode Grade: B+
4) Not Dead Yet (ABC/Hulu)
English Audio Description?: Yes
An episode that almost forced her to tell her secret but… nope. I guess we’re hoping for more seasons and don’t want to jump the shark.
Episode Grade: A-
3) Schmigadoon (Apple Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
There were some really great songs here, clearly aimed at certain very specific musicals. Clearly a lot of Hair references, while also bringing in a dash of Pippin. Sweeney Todd was well covered this time around, and Billy Flynn would be proud of Jane Krakowski’s humorous take on his character.
Episode Grade: A
2) Dear Edward (Apple Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Well, this episode certainly was heavy. Not only was I certain Linda was dead at some point, but Edward went through a lot, and did so without Shea, who i assume has moved to Hong Kong at the request of her father. Whatever her transient father believes is best for her. She’ll drop a sport she loves, she’ll drop friends, and all to earn the approval of a man who we know will leave in a week or two. Edward meanwhile finally lets it out that he believes he should be dead, and Jordan should still be there because they switched seats. Then, just when he starts getting OK again, he finds the letters. Kid cannot catch a break.
Episode Grade: A
1) Reservation Dogs (FX/Hulu)
Last week, i finally started to finish season 2 since it had audio description now on FX, and this episode where Cheese ends up in a group home, with a cameo from Marc Maron, was pretty freaking fantastic. I think it’s the best episode of the series since they went there with showing the girl finding her friend’s body. Sometimes this show is funny, but sometimes it has a ton of heart.
