Where I Watched it: AMC Plus (Shudder)

There’s likely a good concept in this film somewhere, but it’s hard to be able to determine that since Shudder and AMC Plus don’t feel that accessibility is a priority. What a shame.

Influencer introduces us to a young girl in a foreign country, who meets and interesting new friend, and really anything beyond that is a spoiler.

It’s a small cast film. The performances are Ok, given that the film is low budget with actors I’ve never heard of, though there was a guy who had a British accent that sounded like he learned it from Dick Van Dyke. If he’s actually British, then I’m a monkey’s uncle.

The only other thing I can acknowledge is that the film does manage to have a really nice twist ending. There kind of are twists along the way, as that’s part of the journey, so I’m talking about that final twist.

However, audio description would be nice. Not only is this supposedly shot in a beautiful foreign land, but there’s some real importance in knowing what these characters look like. I can’t really tell you why, but it becomes relevant. This is a film where good character descriptions, or at least a better understanding of how certain things are shot would have helped. Sadly, again, there is no thought process into the idea that blind audiences might like a horror title.

I picked influencer because it came recommended from another YouTuber, SinisterSinReviews, and they thought it was worth the time. It might be, which is why I use the term unwatchable to denote that for me and my community, the lack of audio description dramatically alters the experience in such a way that it makes it hard to follow or really make a concise opinion on if the film is good. I have a feeling Influencer is worth the time for my sighted readers, but for those like me, it requires audio description.

I even tried to seek out some descriptions of what transpired, and there was a whole scene described i didn’t even know happened. These are things I just cannot abide.

Final Grade: Unwatchable
