The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/28/23

After a day of some interesting news, the best thing I’ve got for you this morning is that hulu has cancelled Up Here after 1 season. I didn’t even finish that show, so no love lost here.

12) Mulligan (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not yet Renewed

When trying to figure out who lands on the bottom, every once in a while I run into the problem of watching too much TV, and not really remembering something. All i remember was Tina Fey’s character yelling at someone to be a dumbass, and the Senator character joking about how Spanish is illegal now. Not much to go off.

11) Muppets Mayhem (Disney plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet renewed

Well, the human no one ever really cares about in these projects got everything she wanted, except she also caused the band to break up. So, since next week is Episode 10, I assume she’ll spend it trying to fix that error. or maybe she’ll get a mani pedi and surprise us all.

10) Justified (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Revival Currently Running

And a pretty decent jump here to 10, but I’m still holding this show accountable for not having audio description, and i refuse to take it above a B+. This show makes so much sense to go back and add audio description, considering the revival, and someone always gets shot. Like, every single episode, I’m always left wondering what the hell just happened? In this one, after last episodes crazy ass shootout, Raylon has been given his own protection detail as it is now clear someone wants him dead.

9) 911 (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Moving To ABC

Catching up on this with the hopes ABC will start describing again. The creative decision here was to make it feel like any other episode, instead of primarily focusing on Hen’s persistent grief from the accident. That was the stronger emotional core, but this still felt like they wanted to throw everything at the wall and see what stuck. They couldn’t even give her most of the episode, with maybe like one accident or something. Creatively, a choice I wouldn’t have made, but introduced a few interesting exchanges, especially one between Athena and her daughter, who is not a fan of cops after being pulled over and seeing her dad harassed by a white officer earlier in the episode.

8) All In The Family (FreeVee)

English Audio Description?: no

Status: Ended

As I move more into Season 3, it feels like the Jeffersons are being brought in more centric to the stories, as this must have been the period where they were exploring a spinoff for them.

7) Futurama (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Revival started this week

I’m still deep in Season 2, and it will take me a while to get to freaking season 11. I didn’t realize this show was rebooting in July. It almost makes me want to start watching King Of The hill now, to be ready for that reboot. But, this episode, even without audio description, was fun as the gang was able to travel through some blast to the past version of New York from Fry’s time. Even though that concept was more interesting, for them to see Fry’s world, we got a story with a robot with the same design as Bender, who might be evil.

6) Game Of Thrones (MAX)

English Audio Description?: yes

Status: Ended

How do you come out of the Red Wedding with any sort of force? Well, you throw your characters into constant clashes. We basically had to check in with every other major character to make sure they were still alive, I guess for piece of mind. So, there was a Jon Snow/Egret moment. We saw Arya and The Hound, and Arya make her first kill. Joffrey really seems to have had enough of his grandfather, and his grandfather may be overplaying his hand. If I remember correctly in the order of who dies, I think Tywin died before Joffrey. And, Tyrion tries to get into a battle of wits with his father, but loses when his father suggests he was benevolent enough to let Tyrion live at birth. Such a class act. problem is, even with all this discourse, it is still the episode following the Red Wedding, so how do you really follow that?

5) Swagger (Apple plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: not Yet Renewed

Swagger… I’ve loved you this whole time, but I am officially putting you on notice. There was no reason to try and go back to the Crystal storyline where her creepy pedo coach is given a place to speak. And the fact that he’s reached out to a female journalist with his story bothers the hell out of me. She knows what he is, but is so desperate for a stoy she’ll follow the lead anyway? This is what I call a series killer plot line if not handled correctly. Swagger has chosen to walk a very fine line. Most reputable journalists wouldn’t take a phone call from a pedo in prison, so I’m concerned where Swagger wants to take that. For now, I’m still here for the story of these rising athletes, and the men they want to become.

4) Glamorous (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

I’m concerned about whether or not this is too gay for Netflix. After all, they did part ways with Uncoupled (which got rescued by Starz I believe), and I hope I’m wrong. But I thought uncoupled was a shoo-in for a renewal, and it wasn’t. This show is working perfectly, and three episodes in, i really know this ensemble. My only qualm this episode was that Marcos chooses what he chooses at the end of episode 3. They clearly have options, so why did they feel the need to change themselves when this whole show seems about Marco not having to do that?

3) The Other Two (MAX)

English audio Description?: Yes

Status: Final Season

Oh no. They won’t stick the landing. In the series penultimate episode, Pat decides what she needs to create normalcy in her life is to make poor life choices. She tells Streaker that they can’t be together, because she needs him to just be her manager. Then, she pledges to back out of Cary’s movie, and fire Brooke. The problem with this train of thought is that in her world, we basically go back to the beginning, where Cary and Brooke felt useless under the shadow of their little brother, and teh truth is pat is only famous for being Chase’s mother. So, Pat deciding who gets to maintain fame is not a great look for the show. She says literally nothing about her plans for Chase. And that’s a problem for me, and a red flag that this show doesn’t understand what it’s about to do. God, I love this show and it was perfect right up until that last moment.

Episode Grade: B+

2) Frasier (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Revival Coming Soon

All the Crane men lose their partners in the same episode. Interestingly, Bulldog is also fired, and I can’t remember his character well enough to know if that’s a temporary thing or not. But, bye to Bonnie, Fay, and the barista.

1) The Good Wife (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Spinoff Coming At midSeason

Special guest star Tony Goldwyn makes an impact as a judge who throws out plea deals and gives harsher sentences. He literally gives a tiny child 9 months in juvie for throwing a book at a classmate. you can be arrested for stuff like that? Damn, shit like that happened to me in school, and my principal was never like “would you like to press charges?” But, it turns out the judge has an ulterior motive, and that’s what makes this episode good. But what makes this episode great, and why it’s on top, is because Alicia’s daughter gets a new friend, whose mom is none too happy about her daughter being friends with a Florick. The grandmother sprays her down with a hose, and that’s how The Good Wife managed to hit the top spot today, even without audio description. Hell hath no fury like a mother after someone insults her child.
