10 Titles On Hulu To Frighten You This Halloween

You guys know the deal. I’m doing ten titles, with priority given to those with audio description. Hulu is the third streaming service I’ve done this year, following Peacock, and MAX. Peacock didn’t make it to 10 audio described, and i needed to fill the list. Will I have to do that again with Hulu? Read on and find out.

1) Antlers (Hulu)

Audio Description?: Yes

i have seen and reviewed this film prior. I thought it did a good job, especially with the main child lead. It is quite possibly the only film centered around a Wendigo to appear on this list. It does feature some body horror, and i wouldn’t recommend this one for the whole family.

2) Fresh

Audio Description?: Yes

Sebastian Stan gave a really creepy but great performance in this cannibal thriller. I’m not into cannibal movies, so it takes a lot for me to ever get on board. It just nauseates me. you can dismember a body, just don’t eat it.

3) Grimcutty

Audio Description?: Yes

Teenagers find an internet based demon that seems to be making them cut themselves, but that’s only because only the afflicted can see Grimcutty. It’s not a perfect film by any means, and there’s a hospital sequence where no one appears to work in the hospital, but it has some interesting ideas, and the monster is creepy.

4) Matriarch

Audio Description?: Yes

This was just totally bizarre. The way the movie pushes forward, things that happen, and the ending. It’s definitely horror, but I’d be hard pressed to tell you what kind. is freaky just a sub-genre unto itself?

5) no Exit

Audio Description?: Yes

What happens when your car breaks down at a gas station in the middle of a winter storm, and you are stuck with some folk who may not be on the up and up? For those of you who prefer your scary movies less gory and more thrilling than frightening, this could get you in the mood.

6) Prey

Audio Description?: Yes

The best movie I’ve listed so far. if you haven’t seen this, i genuinely believe it will win the Emmy this year for Best TV Movie. It’s so weird to say that, for a Predator film, but Dan Trachtenberg did an exceptional job reinventing the franchise, and giving us the terrific Amber Midthunder. It’s violent, gory, and a true predator film.

7) Run

Audio Description?: Yes

I’m also a big fan of this film. If you watched prey, but not Run, this is a great movie. I wish i could tell you why, but with the twists this movie has in store, it’s really hard to do that. However, I can say without a doubt, Sarah Paulson is incredible in this.

8) The Mill

Audio Description?: Yes

I haven’t even posted my review yet. But, I did manage to just see this film, and I gotta say, it’s going to be a pretty positive review. it is not without its flaws, but if you like dystopian films that have that Saw vibe, but without the gore, The Mill is for you. It’s tense, and Lil Rel howrey does a good job carrying this title. I knew nothing going in, and perhaps that’s the way it should be. At bare minimum, if you work for a corporation, it should make you rethink your life choices.

9) Hellraiser

Audio Description?: Yes

Last year, hulu remade Hellraiser, and it wasn’t terrible. of course, I’ve never seen a Hellraiser film, but i thought the audio description here was really great for a horror film, as it really focused on the gore. It’s a very bleak film, but it’s supposed to be. Definitely not for kids.

10) The Babadook

English Audio Description?: No

There were many titles I saw that I would have loved to put on here that I know have audio description on another service right now. For example, The Menu is on MAX. Why would i tell you to watch it on hulu without audio description? To my knowledge, The babadook isn’t anywhere with audio description right now (except rental or physical media), so I picked this to round out the list. it’s intense. you’ve probably heard about it. Aren’t you curious why?
