It’s been so long since any news that I was not shocked that Wolf Pack was cancelled by Paramount Plus after one season. I kinda already thought it had been. Especially with Paramount going through a much reported mass firing shortly.
Fool Me Once (Netflix) I see is still trending in Netflix’s top 10. Harlan Cobin’s adaptations seem to always attract enough attention, and the British audio description on the series is solid. In this episode, a car alarm was triggered in a way I hadn’t thought of, but I thought the narrator did a nice job of explaining it. Also, little things, like the description of a photo, denoting that there are younger versions of the characters in the photo. Oddly, even though Fool Me Once is constantly throwing me curveballs, I’m more engaged in the incredibly predictable Criminal Record on Apple Plus. I don’t know why.
The Traitors (Peacock) lost a little air in the third episode, if you get what I’m putting down. I’m going to question the audio description here. possibly, a hard fail, and the AD thus far hasn’t been stellar, so I’m assuming it’s an AD fail. There’s heavy contention around whether or not Janelle had her hand on a shield first, and if a sighted audience was given video footage of that exchange to show who really did grab it first, then we should have that knowledge. It was left nebulous to blind audiences, but I wonder if it was defined for sighted. Was it obvious who had the shield first? Or is this an audio description fail?
True Detective: Night Country (MAX) is getting good and weird. I’m not sure that supernatural weird is what I want from the True Detective franchise, but it’s clearly what we are getting. Is it bad that I felt bad that Jodie Foster had to film a straight sex scene for this? It wasn’t really necessary to the plot, as there have been enough references to her character being straight. I think she’s been doing great work on the show in the first two episodes, but I can’t shake the feeling that she really didn’t want to do that scene.
Ghosts: UK (Paramount Plus) gave me the episode with the crew filming inside the house. I had a nice debate with a friend about the pros and cons of both the Uk and USA version, and while I know it originated in the UK, I think USA Ghosts tweaked enough to make it better. The whole odd love story between the Revolutionary War soldiers, and the inclusion of Thor and Flower are just some examples. Yes, I prefer Thor as the version of that character.
And I have to mention something. Yes, Name That Tune does not have audio description, but when they played Burning Love and said it was from Elvis The Movie, I got viscerally angry. Why couldn’t they just say it was by Elvis Presley? The fuck was that all about? Just say who sang it.
